Its easy to judge Shinji because you have no clue what he has gone thru. Imagine if you had his life. Here let me let you in on what he has gone through.

At an early age his mother was taken from him and his father basically left him. He was raised by an older teacher. Throughout his childhood he constantly thinks about his mother who longer lives and his father who doesn't care if he is alive or not. He has to grow up with no friends and the few friends he might have pre eva constantly remind him that which he does not have. Now one day he suddenly gets a message from his father saying that he is finally useful. Finally when he meets his father to find out the only use he has for you is too pilot a giant robot and risk your life for those who you dont know. This would really weigh down on you as well as the pressure to save other peoples lives.

Personally I think that if this was my life I would also be screwed up mentally. At one point I too thought of shinji as spineless and whiney but I had to put myself in his shoes in order to gain a new perspective on his behavior.

Kaworu got beaten by Shinji. Think about that for a second.

I'm not saying Kaworu is the worst. I'm just saying Shinji isn't.

I'm not saying shinji was a bad pilot, he was a bad person who was a pilot.
MAS Productions, I've dealt with about 7/10ths of that shit and he whines about 10 times more than me, so don't lecture me.

Okay, if I were in Shinji's shoes, I'd take up the offer to pilot Unit-01 anyway, defeat the Third Angel, then attack NERV headquarters from within Cage 7. Do you realize how easy it would've been for Shinji to wait to be recovered, driven Unit-01 berserk, and just let it loose inside Central Dogma? Then, when you've got Gendo's attention, jettison the entry plug, and self-destruct Unit-01. Now, Gendo's stuck with no way to defend Tokyo-3 from the Angels, the last traces of Yui's soul have just been wasted, and he's gonna have his ass handed to him on a silver platter from Seele for putting such a psychotic bastard in the most powerful living weapons system devised by man, and losing the only method to achieve H.I.P. Finally, I'd just walk right up to Gendo, point, laugh, and just walk away.

Granted, if Shinji actually did this, Gendo, or any of the other NERV personnel would probably kill him once they had the chance, but it would be too late. It would be the ultimate way to go out with a bang!

Okay, back to the main subject:

Worst pilot: Asuka. She's a whiny bitch who attacks others for her own weaknesses, rather than push herself to become superior (this is why I admire Vegita from DBZ, because he knows deep down he should be better, so he works harder). That, and I find her slutty behavior very annoying. She's the kind of character you'd see put on "The Real World", just to drive people nuts (like Puck).

Worst robot: What the hell is that major one from "Dual" called? You know, the one with that gay pig-tail look going on.
