Don't be ashamed for seeing DB or DBZ on tv when you were younger ... thats the way a lot of ust started, besides, most of us didn't care, as long as it was a cartoon we were happy. Well at least thats how i think i started ...

The very first one I can remember was Kimba the White Lion

Then Voltron(the cool one with the Lions)

Then Battle of the Planets(something Gatchaman).

Then Robotech.

Battle of the Planets/Robotech was out way before Voltron(with the lions)

The one with 35 vehicles is way cooler than the Lions :D

Speed Racer, I believe.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

The first anime I've probably ever seen---hmm...Transformers and the Ninja Turtles count, right? >.< I remember seeing the old "goodies" like Speed Racer and stuff back then, y'know, all those shows on TV, but there was a huge gap in my life that was pretty much "anime-less".
Then there was the Internet...you can see where that goes. Some people I met introduced me to a few anime, such as Love Hina (which I'm wondering if that was a good start, heh.) I had gotten around to reading manga and stuff a little before then, so sooner or later I was bound to fall into the "mysterious and exciting" realm of anime.
After a few bouts with Love Hina, Initial D and whatnot, I ended up getting digital cable, and I fell in love with Slayers--they had it subbed on the International Channel. (I got TiVo too--(yeah, I know...I suck)---which can explain why I was able to record them so late.)
Then to make a ridiculously long story short, a "friend" of mine introduced me to Cowboy Bebop, which I had also read the manga of previously. That's probably my favorite anime up-to-date...and no, not just because it's popular...but still, I guess I love it for the many reasons that any one else who loves it can name, heh. And then there's Fushigi Yuugi, and Trigun and...*gets dragged away*

I watched anime before I realized what a TV is. mama got a fat video rental account when she brought me up and she made sure that everytime she rents her chinese soap operas, she got a cartoon for me. I saw My Neighbor Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies and just recently rewatched them to stir my emotions up...

As for conciously watching an anime? Has to be Cowboy Bebop, then halfway through, my sis finished Trigun and I switched back and forth.
