ur reviews for this show.
It's one of my favorite's really. It crams so much information into just 6 episodes, but doesn't do so haphazardly. The carefully constructed narrative manages to convey all the necessary information (and then some), and still allows for personal interpretation of the characters and their motivation. One of my favorite examples of this is Mamimi. Many series would probably have had Naota give a voice-over cramming down the audience's throat that Mamimi was only interested in him because he reminded her of Tasaku. But FLCL makes you come to that conclusion on your own. Granted, it's not the hardest thing to realize, but still, they never come right out and say it either. You have to be paying attention to figure it out (watching it more than once and picking up on things you may not have caught the first time also helps. )
I also think that any show that, during the final episode, has me screaming at one of the characters, and during a six-episode mini-series to boot, deserves props for character development and writing (when I first finished the series about a year and a half ago, via digisubs before it was licensed, I was actually screaming at the computer towards Haruko, "YOU BITCH!! YOU FUCKING MANIPULATIVE, SELFISH BITCH!!". I'm sure that, had anyone been around to see me, it would have been most humorous).
Not to mention the incredible soundtrack, gorgeous animation, and definite sense of originality and a style all it's own. There is no mistaking FLCL for anything else. I also love the frenetic, organized chaos of the animation, such as how the character designs subtlely change during ep 4 to get more serious and dramatic in feel, then during ep 5, they revert back to the original style. I love how it gives ep 4 it's own sense of individual style and grabs your attention so you pay special care to it, even though it is wierd to see Naota look like he could be related to Shinji at the end, when Haruko is helping him hold the Flying V.
So, yeah, I've gone on too long, but in summary, I like the show. For what that's worth.

At first i didn't know what it was, but that quickly changed after the ixth episode lol.
I see the sixth episode and it ends the whole series and i was shocked. SHOCKED!!!
But seriously, its one of my favs mainly for the really cool style of drawing and the music. (ride on shooting star is now one of the greatest songs EVER according to me)

Yes, yes it does. FLCL has been my favorite show ever since I first saw it wwwaaayyy back in the day, before it got licensed, on fansub. You Adult Swim watching people have not seen the show until you've seen it subbed, because Haruko's voice in the original Japanese version is just too awesome to be replaced.

Indeed her voice is too cool to be reproduced in American, the sound of her voice alone matches her character perfectly. But like I said above its an ok show, not great. Since many people are just now seeing it they act like its something new, but for me its something really old, I watched it back in 2000 or what not.Alucard_FoN wrote:Yes, yes it does. yea i know... lots of people see it on tv and think it's the newest thing out ... it's not ... mas, you saw it almost 3 years ago, as for me, i saw it about 8 months ago. It's a danm great show and was a nice rude awakening from the typical happy ending american shows i was watching before i started watching anime ... but FLCL will always stay close to the top of my list of favorites, always. It was one of my first concious choices to watch anime.
