Why the hell is Funimation taking so long with One Piece!?
Okay, as far as I know Funi has had the rights to One Piece for months now. And yet we're not hearing one peep from them on the progress or possible release dates.
Why the hell is this taking so long? I'm waiting on pins and needles here! Are they purposely keeping their mouths shut cause they're negotiating a deal to put it on Cartoon Network or something? Or is something going wrong in the dubbing process?
AGGGHHH!!! *rips hair out* It's driving me nuts! Does anybody here have any info on what's going on!?

do you know why FUNi is taking so long? Well, it's my opinion, but like all the other anime they dub, they're 'censoring' it for the american viewers. I don't know much about 'ONE PIECE', but I do know that they're probably having a hell of a time trying to censor it for the young american viewers in America...
This is just me, but I really, really, hate FUNi....

That is always a threat. The only show Funi has done a decent job with is Fruits Basket.
Dear god, please tell me that it's not going to show up on the WB or Fox. Even if it's shown on the Toonami block it has some chance of coming away okay. If it's shown on Adult Swim it'll probably be mostly okay.
One Piece is a show meant for teens. It's got blood, it's got swearing, it's got tough issues, partial nudity, etc. It's kinda taken the place of DBZ in Japan, in terms of being the most popular shonen anime. That's why I thought Funi might try to pawn it off on CN.
All I ask is for an uncut japanese option on the DVD, that's all I ask. . . . .

If it actually winds up on Toonami, I'll cry. I saw what they did with Kenshin, and I just KNOW they'll butcher the Arlong Arc ::sob!::
It's such a great series. It'd be a crying shame to see it reduced to the level of idiotic cheese that Kenshin got shredded into, or dummed down to mindless-action-with-crappy-dialogue. Because the characters ARE pretty deep, it DOES have a good story, and there ARE mature issues in it. Not necessarily sexual or psycho-religious, but issues that would go above most 10-13 year olds' heads.
Then again, look on the bright side. FUNi can't screw up the dialogue any worse than those Hong Kong subs.
As for why it's taking so long, last I heard FUNi hadn't officially acquired the distributing rights. Even if they have, One Piece is 1) an unfinished series as of yet and 2) there are roughly 160 episodes so far. That's going to take a long while to sift through.

Better Toonami than Kids WB or the "FoxBox". You've seen the previews for Shaman King on the Foxbox right? Can you believe how horrible it looks? (they changed Ren's name to LENNY)
Not just the Arlong Arc, try the Drum or Alabasta Arc. Luffy's fights against Crocodile alone would send the soccer moms into seizures if unedited. And yes, the characters are very deep. They're well developed, three-dimensional characters. One Piece has stuff that any kid under 14 would not be able to appreciate or fully understand at all. (Nami's past for example)
They might not screw up the dialouge as badly, but they can edit scenes. . . . . . .
By the way, LOVE your avatar!

And I guess that makes sense, if they're still arguing over rights. Wonder if they're in a bid war with ADV or something.
And I know how long One Piece is. But that doesn't stop them from going at it full charge now does it? They did it with Dragonball, they can do it One Piece.

as long as its dubbed like the way they did YYH and Blue Gender who cares?? and Funi also has the rights to Detective Conan as well and thats a lengthy anime right there. too bad Toie didnt give Funi the original score for DB. they only gave them blank episodes. all of Funi's anime products now use the original score which is good and now there dubbed for mature audiences too. too bad it was late with DBZ. hopefully One Piece will be good ive been wanting to see it for a while. ive only footage of OP in amvs looks good in a weird sort of way.

Umm, the shows Funi makes that are put on Toonami are less censored than almost everything else on that block. For a long time everything except DBZ had the words "kill" and "die" removed, and had all the blood censored out. Funi has done some bad stuff in the past (dbz season 1-4, although the problem wasnt censorship) but nothing since then has been that bad. I mean, give em credit where its due. If VegettoEX of all people can give Funimation credit improving, then anyone can. I mean, Funi doesnt even determine what gets censored, CN does. The reason they are taking so long is because they are still a realitively small company compared to other american anime distros, and they recently started buying up a whole bunch of stuff, and are starting work on those combined with continued work on series they already got going. Also, even if the dubbed version on CN is butchered, Funis DVDs have very good subtitles. The guy who did the DBZ ones is like on the of the best translators there is.eX-Dream wrote:do you know why FUNi is taking so long? Good point ::shudders at DBZ's 400+ episode count::Amaranth wrote:And I guess that makes sense, if they're still arguing over rights. Wonder if they're in a bid war with ADV or something.

Put it this way, I checked FUNi's official site, and so far One Piece isn't even given a mention. Last I heard, FUNi had only acquired the rights to OP's official website, but not the actual show
And yeah, most of Luffy's battles would send the soccer moms to the phone. Not to mention the many many many many MANY instances showcasing Sanji's adorably perverted mind.
But anyway, I'm hoping FUNi gets their butts in gear soon. Either that or Shonen Jump releases the next few graphic novels pronto ::schnoogles her copy of vol.1::

Hee hee hee. Gotta love Sanji. And I'm collecting the original japanese manga, so I've got all the Sanji manga goodness I need.
Their subtitles are for the most part good, but I remember the days when they released DBZ without a japanese track option. *shudders* And they made an agreement with 4Kids to release Yugioh on DVD and that doesn't have a japanese track either. So I'm still rather worried.
They're not the worst dubbing company (that's 4Kids) but I've seen stuff that's much much better. And Fruits Basket is the best dub they do, IMHO.TheRealNeoHentaiMaster wrote: Umm, the shows Funi makes that are put on Toonami are less censored than almost everything else on that block.
