EVA was 20 years ago ('83)?? I have no hard facts but Misato must have been 16-20 (since in flashbacks of 12 years ago she looked at least 4!!) and the rest were 12 than you do the math.

Of coarse if your a real otaku than it all happened in 1999... and we're all dead btw ;-p

ack Eva is more like 95 so if you assume the kids are 14 then they are just then they would be 23.

Mr Oni is very right, it even states in eva that the kids have to be 14, why 14 is anyones guess, even hardcore eva fans usually can't give me an answer.
An i believe that Misato was around 24-28 because in the series ritsuko has a flash back to when they started working on the e project together

( which most likely would have been after they had both went to collage or some fourm of education)

Also Ritsuko reffers to this flashback as "a long, long time ago....." or something along those lines.

They have to be 14 because they have to have born after Second Impact (which was in 2000, the present date being 2014 as evidenced by the date on all the Eva pods etc). Therefore, as it is undesirable to have to deal with even younger pilots, they go for the oldest available to them- 14-year-olds.
