What are the most popular animes in US and Japan?

I was wondering if anyone knew what the top ten animes would be (not just for AMV creators as listed on the site) for the US and Japan. I wanted to get a couple of DVD boxsets, but I'd like to know what's popular in both countries. Is there any website that tells what's popular in what country perhaps?

I had a list of the top 100 from a TV poll in Japan at one stage... I think I posted in on the forums here. I'd look for it but I'm being lazy and procrastinating from work at the moment.

Dragonball (Z/GT), Pokemon, and Digimon must be popular because they have so many episodes. They aren't the best animes, but they are probably the most popular.
