The need for a sequel?
It seems that with so many anime ending abrubtly now adays, there seems to be more and more people wanting sequels. I ask myself why most of these people would want such a thing. Most of these series ended the way they did for a reason and to continue after it would be pointless (assuming the tv series ends similar to the manga or how the creator would want it to be ended). I've seen too many good animes butchered do to the cry for sequels *points to Rurouni Kenshin after the Kyoto Saga*. I can somewhat understand why some would want to know what happens after the ending but I also know that continuing would only turn the series into a filler.
With that being said, there are instances where I do fill the need for something after certain series end to better summarize the ending or to fill gaps in the series that were left untouched and were vital to the plot. One series that I can think of off the top of my head would be Hellsing, in which many questions were left unanswered (for example the origans of Incagnito and the freak chip).
So what do you think on this issue? Do you think that sequels are needed just to fill curousity or do you think that they shouldn't make them in order to save the integrity of the original anime? What is your take on this?

BTW this is a random list of anime that I felt ended fine and doesn't need a sequel, series I feel lasted too long due to sequels and series I felt needed a sequel:
Doesn't need a sequel-
Trigun
Cowboy Bebop
Neon Genesis Evangelion (tv series had a perfectly fine ending)
Love Hina (although I felt that they should have stuck to the manga for the story. The story they made for the tv show was fine the way it ended.)
FLCL
Series that lasted too long due to sequels-
Rurouni Kenshin
DBZ
Series that might need a sequel to better explain plot or ending-
Hellsing
Nadesico (although they did make a movie which cleared up a few plot holes they also made all new ones. This was also hightened by the completely abrubt stop to the series.)
Berserk (I have been following the manga up to volume 25 and truly believe that they should continue the anime. That is of course assuming that they include Pakk.)
Oh my goddess (for the same reason as Berserk, I feel that the manga is good enough to produce a successful series.)
Ranma (I really felt disappointed that they stopped the series short of the Herb and Phoenix Sagas. I think the movies would have been great chances to do these two events but nooooooo that just had to waste the chance.)

Doesn't need a sequel-
Trigun (agree)
Cowboy Bebop (i dunno, movies that focus on specific crew member might be a good thing if they're well done)
Neon Genesis Evangelion (tv series had a perfectly fine ending) (agree 110%)
Love Hina (although I felt that they should have stuck to the manga for the story. The story they made for the tv show was fine the way it ended.) (also agree, more sequels would not be very good)
FLCL (please god don't let them make a sequel to this ... for the love of god and all thats holy)
Series that lasted too long due to sequels-
Rurouni Kenshin (no comment, i haven't seen it yet)
DBZ (i jsut have no comment because it's not neccesary)
Series that might need a sequel to better explain plot or ending-
Hellsing (if they were to expand on teh ending and explain what the hell happened it would be nice)
Nadesico (although they did make a movie which cleared up a few plot holes they also made all new ones. This was also hightened by the completely abrubt stop to the series.) (never saw it, so no comment)
Berserk (I have been following the manga up to volume 25 and truly believe that they should continue the anime. That is of course assuming that they include Pakk.) (i never saw this, but i want to)
Oh my goddess (for the same reason as Berserk, I feel that the manga is good enough to produce a successful series.) (it's been a while, but i think Ah! my goddes was good enough of an OVA on it's own with the movie, it shouldn't need much work if any)
Ranma (I really felt disappointed that they stopped the series short of the Herb and Phoenix Sagas. I think the movies would have been great chances to do these two events but nooooooo that just had to waste the chance.) (another one i never saw)

I think all the El Hazard titles that came after the original OAV should never have been made. (I will admit that I never saw Alternative world, but my stomach was so turned by the 2nd OAV and The Wanderers that I just couldn't stand to see more damage done to my one of my favorite animes)
I wasn't too impressed with the TV version of Tenchi Muyo or the 2nd OAV either. In the 2nd OAV, it felt like all the characters had been reduced to a more 2-D version of themselves.
I would love to see more Phantom Quest Corp... provided, of course, that it was done by the same people.
I would love to see the Ranma story arc you were talking about done... be it either in OAV or movie format.
I would like to talk about the idea I had for a Cowboy Bebop 2nd Series.
First... let's have some spoiler space.
******************************
There... that should be enough.
The only way I would want to see a 2nd Cowboy Bebop series is if it was done by the same team... I would not want some 2nd rate group messing up such a great title.
Now... I'm sure you're asking. How can there be a 2nd series. The answer is actually quite simple. Remember! The show is called Cowboy Bebop... not The Spike Spiegel Show. Therefore... a 2nd Cowboy Bebop series would continue to follow THE BEBOP...
We start with where we left off... Jet and Faye. Like the original series, new characters can come on... there can be deep analysis of the old characters... I mean... what happens to Jet and Faye now, what with all they have learned and all they have witnessed. Faye is not the person she was by the end of the show, because she has her past back... it's a whole new aspect of herself she has to deal with and think about and incorperate into how she plans on dealing with life...
Hell... you could have Jet sell the Bebop and decide to take a new direction with his life... and then follow the people who take it over... and who's to say that the people who take it over want to be cowboys?
There are a LOT of good possibilities on where to go with that show if you made the plotline follow the ship...
Anyway... if there was to be more Bebop... that's the approach I would take with it.

There are two kinds of people in this world:
Those who divide people into two kinds of groups
and those who don't.

I would have to agree, the manga gives it a finish to the series, but the tv-series doesnt really, it leaves u hanging, what happened to keitaro and naru, stuff like that. But then again its really all in the manga. They should have stuck with the manga version to leave the viewer with a finished feeling with the tv-series. If they did make a second series, it shouldnt be too long cuz then i would be just fillers, and that kills the series, maybe 3 more episodes (OAV's) what u guys think.Anlushac11 wrote:8)
Only one I disagree with is Love Hina. I would like to see them finish the manga and then thats it.
I also would love to see the Oh My Goddess manga finished in anime. More of Urd, Belldandy, and Skuld cant be all bad.
