What if anime went mainstream

Post by Master Shake » Sun Oct 12, 2003 10:56 pm

Ok this is a big what if but lets think about it anyway. Lets say a major network is looking to full some air time with a mid-season replacement and for whatever reason they put on some anime show, lets just say Hellsing, and it becomes a hit. So like they did with reality shows a few years ago all the networks start putting on anime shows and next thing you know anime has crossed over to were it seams like everyone is watching it. Now as already loyal fans I was just wondering how everyone else might feel. I can see two reactions 1. One feels glad to see anime get mainstream acceptance and enjoys the fact that it would be easier to it see more shows. Or 2. One feels alienated because something they cared for is all of the sudden everywhere, and people who never cared for anime become fans. I think I would fall into group 2, I enjoy that anime has a relatively small but very loyal following, whenever I met a fellow anime fan at work or school its like meting a distant relative, we share a common bond that most other people either don’t get or chose not to get. However if anime went mainstream that feeling would likely go away.

Hmm...I have mixed feelings...

I would one, like the idea because it would finally be appreciated, and maybe more stuff would come over from Japan...

But then again, they may kill it somehow...sniffle...

i, personally, would be no.2 i agree that when i meet another anime fan, it is like talking to a new friend. anime should not become mainstream because then the new fans will be like most people who just see one episode of DBZ or TENCHI MUYO and cant stop talking about that one episode, it would get annoying and the new anime that would come to america on other stations (besides Cartoon Network or tech tv, if you have anymore stations, plz notify me) would be HIGHLY cut, which would ruin the entire anime.

Anime is already mainstream. I don't know why you think it's not.

The number of ignorant "Anime" fans who in reality only love what's on CN is simply unfathomable and it's been like this for quite some time.

Mainstream Anime

Post by Charizard305 » Mon Oct 13, 2003 2:05 pm

I would like to be able to see Anime more Easily than buying what looks good on the shelf at the store, but at the same time, I agree with #2 Whole Heartedly. I Feel the same as Most others when I say that Anime shouldnt go Mainstream because of its following. Anime Fans Are Extremely Loyal, and if everyone watched anime, it would be like normal TV now, the Appreciation of Anime would go down and no one would care about it as much as they do now. Riddle Me This, Do you really wanna see Anime Reality Shows? I know that I don't.

~I feel the same way! I would be so no. 2.
I thought I was being selfish because I didn't want to share! I'm glad there are others who think the same way. There'd be crappin' folks just yapping away everywhere, thinking they know everything about everything because they watched an episode of Sailormoon. People who laughed at you for liking "cartoons" would all of a sudden be imitating Pokémon and shit. I like the way things are, mostly. I'd like a wider variety of stuff on the TV, but I can live with what we've got.

Leave anime to us!~

Exactly, Being in the Marines and Liking "Cartoons" has gotten me into a few fights that I came away from with alittle more than a Few Scratches. But Hey, If ur gonna fight, make it something worth Fighting for. :) Like this angelx03, just making fun of something they can make fun of. And on top of that, all those ppl out there that have seen an Episode of Pokemon or Sailor Moon ( the americanized Versions) dont know what real anime is. I hear that the Sailor Moon OVA kicked serious ass, for which I have yet to see. I thought I was being alittle selfish when i thought of that too, but if u put alot of thought into a name for ur self and someone see's it and alters it alittle, wouldnt that make u feel like all that work u did was a waste if someone elce has a name thats almost exactly the same?

The fact anime is in big Hollywood Blockbusters like "Kill Bill vol. 1" should tell you that it's already mainstream.

Has it changed my outlook? No. I like the shows I like and hate the ones I Hate. I don't think popularity should have anything to do with anything since well...that must mean you never really liked it in the first place.
