I don't think anime will ever die. Perhaps the animated versions will sink out of popularity, but there will always be manga. Even if you have to buy it only in Japan, there will be manga. I mean, it's Japanese comic books, and comic books never die. (they've been around since, like, 1930)
And consider one of the past huge fads "star trek" , People still know all about that one, and there are all those spoofs of it. No, anime won't die. It will be limited to Japan and the only american fans will be labled as freako nerds with way too much freetime, but that's just the worst-case senario. It'll never go out completly...

Anime is undeniably a part of Japanese culture, and more importantly anime is a medium of information, and in all of known history there's not a single case of a medium of information dying out, unless it's somehow encompassed and made obsolete by some other medium. Now considering that, what could possibly make anime obsolete? I mean, I can certainly imagine a day when there're star trek like holagram movies, and certainly anime wouldn't be able to transfer into that. But even then there'll be flat screens, and there're many things that CG or real video simply can't do like anime can do. Of course, how anime is made as the style of anime will change greatly, just look how different anime was in the 70's to now. And in the future it won't be surprising if anime is all made with computers instead of hand, but even then there'll need to be a hand and mind behind that computer! That's why I don't think anime will ever die out, it's too good to die out!
