Cowboy Bebop creator Shinichiro Watanabe has a new series!

Yes, you read right, folks! The creator of the beloved series Cowboy Bebop is working on a new creation!

The anime is called Samurai Champloo. I have no idea what it's about (other than samurai and swordfighting). The official site is up at www.samuraichamploo.com and it has a small promo gallery and a 15 second trailer in realmedia format available for download.

It may be only a 15 second trailer, but DAMN those are some cool 15 seconds!

A good creator does not always a good series make. Just look at Yasuhiro Nightow. Trigun was an excellent show; in fact it's my favorite anime of all time. However, he later went on to have a hand in Gungrave which is, IMO absolutely horrible. Let's just hope Shinichiro Watanabe doesn't loose his touch too.

Watanabe has that thing about associating a series with a musical style. Cowboy Bebop was jazz, and this seems to be more along the lines of Rock/Hip-hop. Which means high energy. And it's about a sword-fighting samurai.

Put them together, and you get me looking forward to it.

Apparently this animation studio, manglobe, is new?

I have no idea if Manglobe is new or not.

It's true that not every series by a creator is usually good. (although Rumiko Takahashi seems to hit well with hers). But we can hope to high heaven this is good.

I really want to watch the trailer, but I really don't want to download Real Player to watch it. I read about this in NewType last month, and I'm eagerly anticipating it.

the art style kinda reminds me of that anime segment of Oren Ishi's childhood in Kill Bill vol. 1.

Same. Is it really worth downloading, for just this one trailer?

I think not, since the trailer will probably out in a different format eventually.
