I'll chime in now. I'm a DBZ fan. Not as big as I was, but I like it. Only arc I didn't care for is the little green guy that the first movie was about. Between freeza and trunks.
the buu saga is too long and yes I've noticed the irony in how long it took for Namek to blow. But I still love it. You'll find unbelievable crap in any anime. Not in all, but in many.

Eh? I Dbz didn't move down on my list because of the fandom, it moved down because I discovered Berserk, X, Princess Mononoke, Trigun, FLCL, Record of Lodoss War, VHD, etc and I liked them a lot more.billy_wires wrote:I think it is stupid that someone could be turned away from something because of the large scale fandom *cough* SSJVegita0609 *cough*
Hell, I kept the dbz name didn't I?
The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

Well I guess Ill throw in my 2 cents here.
I have seen all Db,Dbz,Dbgt and sure there are somethings that could be better with it but as a whole I really like it.
I know from my name and avatar some may think im just some fanboy but ive seen alot of diffrent animes.
EVA, Inuyasha, Hellsing, VHD,VHD bloodlines,Record of lodoss wars,Flcl, Ninja scroll,Beserk,YYH,The Hakkenden,Trigun,Spriggan and alot of others. I still enjoy watching it and to flame people just because they like it is kind of dumb to me. Well thats it

You must have a really messed up perception of the show, where you talking to friends, or possibly on acid while watching it? They don't even talk about Power Levels after Freezer lies about his power level after transorming for the first time, it's never mentioned once after that. And they only thing remotely similar is when the androids mention things about strength, with happens at most maybe 5 short blurbs about it, hardly even noticeable. And you've really got it wrong about powering up, they never power up for episodes, and the only times remotely seeming like that is when they have side stories occuring durring a power up, which doesn't happen very often. You can hate or like or despise the show all you want, but it annoys me when people have an absolut 0% comprehension of the show, or if they know it well and simply choose to get all the facts wrong.dwchang wrote:Uhm....let's see...where and how to answer this. As for what version i've seen. Funimation? Yeah right. I saw Dragonball Z about 10 - 15 years ago in Korea when it was actually "new." So I'm fairly sure I saw it unedited or whatever. Then again, it was awhile ago so maybe I'm wrong. I'm pretty sure someone in here will support me and my claim about it though.
Also, you guys do realize the show is almost 20 years old right? I always found it amusing that a company could pick it up and turn it in the next big thing (again..it already was in Japan).
And old things are my favorites, most of the time atleast. The classics of yesterday are my favorites of today.

I think you misunderstand. Just because I say "power levels" doesn't mean I am exclusively talking about a numerical value found on a scouter. The entire show is about strength and characters, numerous times, talk about Character X being strong and how they "feel" it and so on. That's throughout the entire show from the beginning till the end.HeartbreakerByZep wrote: You must have a really messed up perception of the show, where you talking to friends, or possibly on acid while watching it? And you also need some serious reading comprehension since I didn't say anything about hating it. In fact, I like the manga and grew up with it as a kid. And unless you have read the entire manga, I think I have a wee bit more knowledge on how to compare the differences between the anime and manga...I could even extrapolate that further in saying that if you only watched the Cartoon Network version, the pure fact that I saw it in Asia unedited would also help my case (when it was new in the 80's).
Funny how you're arguing about a show that old.

Well you sure are getting personally defenseive. As Dw already mentioned when the phrase "power level" is used it dosent just refer to their "number" on the little saiyan things its just that the majority of the show IS the characters talking about their level of power.HeartbreakerByZep wrote:You must have a really messed up perception of the show, where you talking to friends, or possibly on acid while watching it? Also, the only answer i can think of to combat your saying they dont powerup for episodes is "bull". I think you may of been the one on acid if you missed that >.<
Also i wouldnt call him the one with the 0% comprehension of the show when he has already mentioned 2 or 3 times in this thread that he grew up on it and has a far greater knowledge of the manga an unedited version. Always read the complete post before you repy, especially is such an offensive way :/
Also(Ok so i cant think of another transition to seperate points just leave me alone! ) You are somewhat correct about the side stories, but it even hurts your case more when some of the sidestories take entire eps like the one where fat buu whent shopping Youd think if you were in the middle of a giant fight to save the universe you wouldnt show a group of people hiding behind rocks talking for 5 minutes, but thats just me
