This is no particular order but these are the character that have touched me emotionally and mirror my own heart in some fashion:

Kris Christopher (Battle Athletes Victory)
This women who follows her heart and also has strong ties to her religion Now, I am not saying I am a religious person, but when her religion and her heart are in conflict, she chouses her heart. Never let anyone or anything stand in your way from what you feel and what makes you happy.

Kris "Yea, I am satisfied."

Lantis (Magic Knights Rayearth)
Here is a man to shows that some rules should be broken. A man willing to put it all on the line for an ideal. However, what makes him different form every one eals is the fact that his shell is shattered as he falls in love with Hikaru Shidou. Showing us that there is something more important to fight for and live for.

Hikaru "Lantis, I love you."
Lantis "And I, you, as well."

Orson (Records of Lotoss War Chronicles of the Heroic Knight)
A man filled with rage but learns that his heart is his and can not be controlled. He shoes us that rage lives in everyone, regardless of you position in life. The only through you personal life events can one control the rage that lives there in. In the end, he also gives us something to think about. He chose to give into the rage to save some one he loves. A self-sacrificing act that burns a moment in time in the hearts of all who knew him.

Shiris "I won't stop living my life because Orson sacrificed his life so I can live."

Neese (Records of Lotoss War Chronicles of the Heroic Knight)
Forgiveness is eternal and the heart of one can open to all. A girl, able to see that what she wants in life but must chouse against it for the needs of many. A simple choice that she showed just how hard it is. We all want to the right thing but is that always what the people closest to us will understand. She also show to me again the once convictions are hard to follow. Then again, no one said life was an easy act to play.

Endearing? Great topic! However, I can't possible list these in top 10 format... I will just list 10 characters that are endearing to me.

Ifurita (from the original El Hazard OAV)
Kiki (Kiki's Delivery Service)
Keno (The Hakkenden) - The episode that introduces him is so powerful.
Milly (Trigun)
Ed (Cowboy Bebop)
Tsubasa (Kare Kano/His and Her Circumstances)
Totoro (My Neighbor Totoro)
Nanami (Revolutionary Girl Utena)
Misato (Neon Genesis Evangelion)
Marie (Nadia: Secret of Blue Water)

OK... that was off the top of my head... there are many more.

These characters are all endearing for different reasons... some because of emotional impact, some because there just such likable characters, some because they just left an impact.

When I originally saw Escaflowne it was by Fansub. I'm pretty sure at least one of the subtitles called him Folken Strategos. I had no idea Strategos was his occupation, and I think it slipped by the fansubber too. Stupid Fansubbers.
