Yeah, M7 is based off DYRL, you can tell by the fact they go with Exedore's movie version when they show him with Max (instead of the hair, he has the Star Trek-esque cranium)

Some other comments:

Capt. Global's skin color was an attempt to make him Italian (or so I've heard anyways)
As for the Russian accent...let's just say if you ever check out the dub on Aura Battler Dunbine, you'll see Carl Macek (who was the main person behind Robotech) seems to have no clue about how accents work even today (making the Given family Irish with no reason whilst completely ignoring the fact Marvel Frozen was from Texas...sorry...that one just amuses me...he puts accents where they're unneeded and misses when accents are deliberately handed to him)
Personally, while I've turned to Robotech as a means of seeing Macross (for now anyways...I DO plan to buy the AnimEigo boxsets one of these days, but for now I've frozen my funding to save up for the Zeta Gundam boxset Bandai's working on) I still can't get over the accents & name changes...esp. Global's accent
Macross:
Global: Scramble the Valkyries!
Robotech:
Gloval: Scramble the Veritechs...on Soviet Macross, Veritech scrambles you!

Anyways, on a final note, Milo, here's another one for ya:
Did you know to this day, Macek feels he did the right thing?
From what interviews I've seen he has generally acted pretty cocky and doesn't understand why the Macross fan community is pissed at him (As a Dunbine fan I'm pretty pissed at him too...and he didn't even try to mesh that with anything...and I'm sure he'd be in trouble from the Mospeda and Southern Cross fandoms too if they existed *ducks*)
He even feels that they should be thankful towards him for it.
Of course, this was also the same guy who said in an NTUSA interview that anime nowadays was going down the shitter so...

Its a question of quality. Look at recent Japanese Macross-related items, then look at what those ass clowns at Harmony Gold have done with Robotech. Robotech could conceivably become something good, but I haven't seen any evidence that anybody at HG is an anime fan or even knows what anime is.

The animeigo box set is far superior to the Robotech discs. The Japanese Yamato line of transformable valkyries kick ass, whereas the HG licensed Toynami line of valkyries suck ass. Shouji Kawamori is going ahead with things like Macross Zero, and I've heard of something called Macros 3D in the works. HG did one episode of the Sentinels, and that wasn't all that good. (there may be legal issues with adding to the existing Robotech animation, I don't know)

Robotech doesn't suck because it was localized/revised. It sucks cuz the people who did it suck.

OK... I talked to my friend.

According to the liner notes on the Macross 7 Laser Disc from Japan, it says that Exedore regrew himself to Zentradi size and had used Zentradi technology to boost his brain so he looked that way... and it is THAT look that is used for his "design" in the movie.

I am not joking. They went that far to try to explain why Exedore in the movie looks all wierd and pulsating-brain like.

However go here...

The website "The Macross Compendium" is a great place to go to get your answers.

However... I ASSURE YOU... the official word from JAPAN is that the continuity is

Macross Zero - Macross TV - Macross Plus - Macross 7 -Macross 7 Dynamite

Macross: Love, Do You Remember? is a movie that was made within the Macross Continuity

and Macross II is the sequel to that movie.

Go here for a timeline

Christ, even Gundam isn't as convoluted as this method towards timeline... :X

Unless Heero Yuy is the secret cross-demensional love child of Lalah and the RX-98. :O

Gundam's a different kind of headache.

There's the "official" Gundam time line

and then all those "alternate universe" Gundam titles which have nothing to do with the main timeline or each other
(Titles including Gundam Wing, G-Gundam, Turn A Gundam and Gundam Seed)

Turn A Gundam was the scarriest, most mind blowing one of them all.
