anyways.....the japanese anime distributors shold grab their balls and take the plunge to push and do all the stuff that Miramax and co would otherwise do for them. :?
Any anime worthy enough should win, whether it be pokemon or patlabor....but its unfortunate as stated that its $ clout that wins the day. :?

No Bebop?!?!?

WTF? I bet just because it is rated R it wouldn't even be considered by the academy for this category. They probably think animated films should be for kids. Cowboy Bebop is geared for a older audience obviously but is still far higher quality of a film than most films on that list. Shit, it's a high quality film period- animated or not.

Um... bebop was released theatrically during the previous oscar year, IIRC.

Also, what's all this "it's about time" talk... does everyone have that short a memory - remember Spirited Away last year?

Correct. I managed to see it theatrically here last week, though, subtitled :P

Ah man, what the hell happened to the hostile political takeover of this thread? That was great. I'm not so sure about some of the evidence people cited (where'd you hear about french missiles? Not just to pick on Toecutter, I found a lot of evidence/arguements shaky) Its great because on the internet we don't show much of ourselves, but for a minute there everyone was throwing off their cloaks and exposing their political colors.

I haven't seen bowling for columbine, but I have read one of Michael Moore's books. I consider myself slightly on the liberal side, exept when it comes to war (I tend to lean pro-war). (and I agree with Toecutter on Bush, and I think its unfortunate we have recieved criticism internationally for pretty much protecting ourselves)

Anyway, back to the book. Even as a middle of the road liberal, many chapters of his book were so liberal they made me blush. I think he tends to exaggerate, sometimes a lot, but I don't think of him as a deciever. Conservatives should hate that guy, he's obnoxious!

Anyway, I think its kind of funny that pokemon got considered. Thats not exactly the image of anime we want others to see at the academy awards. This is just my opinion, but I think Series are almost always better than stand alone anime movies. Its too bad a series can't get represented somehow (possibly at the Emmy's?). Too bad no one watches the Emmy's.

(Something tells me Chang's gonna reply to this :) )
