Does anyone know of any anime characters that were based on people?

Like Squall [FFVIII] is formed after Gackt
and Edward [Cowboy Bebop] is formed after Yoko Kanno

Ed was based on a real person? Now that's scary.

As for others. . . perhaps Juubei from Ninja Scroll? I know there was a historical figure by the name of Juubei, but I think it might have been Juubei Yagyu, and not Juubei Kitagama(sp?).
