I was wondering...

is there actually a trend in censoring yaoi by making characters female? It just seems like it wouldn't work without changing the entire plotline. Not to mention the risk of losing the audience.

The only anime I really know of off-hand where they made it a habit to switch guys to girls was Sailormoon and I think that was because the target US audience was so young. The dubbed CN version of that anime was aimed for 10yr olds (maybe younger), and they really screwed it over in terms of censoring anything questionable. Cousins...really...

At the risk of seeming completely ignorant (mainly because I am), who got switched?

Man, I wish I had actually paid attention to that show now!

Heh, I haven't watched it all in Japanese, but I know one or two. Fisheye (of the threesome Tigerseye and Hawkseye) was a male. They made him into a girl because he flirted with his male partners and actually kissed Darien (Mamoru) at one point in the anime. He crossdressed, so it was easier for them, but they did have to cut the part where Fisheye takes off his dress in a room full of people and they stare - it seems they're shocked that 'she' would do that, but really they're shocked that it's a flat-chested guy.

Then there was Zoicite (not sure - the blonde with the ponytail of long hair) who got turned into a girl because he was always flirting with the white haired guy (Malecite??? I have no idea what his name was), and when his lover dies, he dies saying that he'll be with Zoicite soon - they kept the romance, just switched the gender so the blonde was a female. Like the flat chest wouldn't have given him away. They were generals under Queen Beryl.

And the big yuri pairing, Neptune and Uranus (don't know their japanese names) were made into cousins instead of two people who just happened to fall in love at first sight. So it's like they're 'kissing' cousins - very very close. But oddly enough, they still had Jupiter and the other girls falling for Uranus and thinking she was a guy in the series - I'm not sure if that was twisted or not (I don't know if they fell for her knowing it was a girl in the Japanese version, or if it was meant to be a joke about how 'masculine' Uranus can be). Either way, they killed that pairing in the dub, and it's shame since it's one of the sweetest yuri pairings I've seen.

Yup definately like the Hiei X Kurama one's, but the Yusuke X Hiei, and Kurama X Yusuke one's are good too. In Inuyasha I like the Sesshoumaru X Inu, Sesshoumaru X Miroku, Inuyasha X Miroku, and so on and so forth! xD

  *Runs around the forum with a banner that says "Long live Yaoi!"*

I love yaoi!(Although i'm a guy, i still think some of the couples are perfect together. Hiei & Kurama. I think that's how you spell kurama's name. Too much coffe not enough sleep. x.x;)

Although i like the hard-core stuff, i prefer soft-core due to the romances between the characters.

Gender doesn't matter if you're open minded - I'm a hetero female but I still find some yuri pairings to be very sweet. ^_^ And don't worry, you spelled Kurama right. ;p Great to see more KxH fans.

I don't mind hardcore in fiction, but I like the soft emotional romances in vids and anime. And a touch of angst doesn't hurt either. I just prefer relationships to explicite stuff. ^_^;;

The problem with yaoi comes from the ridiculous pairings that come from the fandoms. I mean with stuff liek Fake and Graviation.... you have something to work with. And if it was left there everyone else can kindly ignore it and move onto the next manga title or DVD laying in plain sight.

However you get into the stupid and downright wrong pairings. Vash and Wolfwood is a fantastic example. You take two characters who routinely flirt with the ladies and by all logical reasoning given by the material is straight. Now, there is just no way you can justify this pairing to make it work.

Yaoi fangirls piss me off because many of them are so into their fantasies that they simply get to the point where they bash any female. Especially a female character with a canonical love interest in one or both of the boys the girls want to see together in that doujin or fanfiction.

Not every anime male is gay and that needs to be accepted. There are straight people left in the world even after Tokyo gets blown up for the 98,563th time.

What the heck is the appeal of yaoi anyway for straight fangirls? Doesn't that cut into your fantasies of supposed male screwing you? I mean, if I were stright I would rather have the boy be interested in me (in real life mind you) rather than oh, a cute male cousin or something. The appeal of two guys getting it on being an appeal to females must only carry for media because in real life it would be major problems.

I so need to find a friend with a copy of Gundam Wing on DVD so I can do my yaoi bitchslap amv. U2's Will God Send His Angels to every bad major yaoi couple imaginable

Shinji/Kaoru- Eva; Vash/Wolfwood- Trigun; Heero/Duo- Gundam Wing; the Weiss Kreuz males; Final Fantasy males; Entire Male cast of Fruits Baskets and a couple more. Whenever I can get that done that will be my answer to the fangirls insisting this yaoi craze is a great thing. [/b]
