Looking to increase my anime.

Post by showstoppa » Wed Dec 31, 2003 11:50 am

Yes, I know that this has been done before and someone else below me is asking the same question, but I need some help as well.

I've recently gotten a DVD player and I'm going to be coming into some money next week so I need some suggestions for some anime DVD's to get besides the obvious stuff that I'll eventually get like Eva, Bebop, Utena and One Piece (Bishounen Stalker, that last reference was for you, :)

I currently own

X: The Movie
Tenchi Muyo 1-9
All of Flame of Recca
All of Shaman King
Venus 5 1&2
Angel of Darkness 2&3
Mezzo Forte 1&2

Thanks and have a good New Years, everybody.

Well If you liked X the movie, you should definately check out the T.V series, Tokyo Babylon is a sort of side story from before X, *not as Xish but if you like the character of Subaru. I don't know if you've seen it, but I recommend the special edition of Cowboy Bebop the Movie, it's probably one of my favourite anime movies.

I dont' really know about most of the animes on your list so I can't comment based on Genre.

If you liked the Tenchi series you should get the 3 movies. Although the series themselves in my opinion are awesome the movies blow the series out of the water.

Definitely Hellsing...the X TV series is awesome too. Um...hmm...there's always Kenshin too, and movies like Ninja Scroll. Love Hina, if you're into nice lighthearted comedy.

You might enjoy Berserk. It's my grandmother's favorite. I'm not joking.

The following are 'must-sees' in my opinion.

1.Escaflowne - My current favorite. Excelent story with absolutely no dead space whatsoever. Very easy to get hooked on from episode 1.

2.Evangelion - One of the most meaningfull animes out there. But you said not to mention the obvious stuff :P

3.Now and Then, Here and There - Not the every day anime. It is very dramatic and at sometimes down right sad, but i still highly recomend it.

4.Rurouni Kenshin - If you follow the episodes that run along with the manga (1-64) You will end up with a very nice story that has great character development.

I decided not to actually write out what each anime is *about* because at the end of each of them thats not really the point. Hope that helped.

If you want to completely LYAO then you must get Excel Saga. Even if you dont get all the subliminal humor (Which I didnt get the first time through) you will most likely find yourself laughing yourself to death in every episode like I did (Of course I laugh at practically anything  ) There are Ad-Vid notes you can turn on that explain something when someone makes a reference to something such as jokes or japanese cultutral references we Americans may not recognize . Overall Excel Saga is definately a must even if you dont completely find the humor LOL funny its still a solid and good anime only... a little weirder
