Monday January 19th, 2004- Live Action Witch Hunter Robin Confirmed

Mr. Joe Menosky, writer and producer for TV series including Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, and The Dead Zone, has contacted AnimeNation with confirmation that last Friday, January 16th, the Sci-Fi Channel closed a deal with Sunrise Studios of Japan to remake Witch Hunter Robin as a live-action American television series. Mr. Menosky will write the series and executive produce along with Mr. Roy Lee (who licensed the remake of "Ring") and his business partner Doug Davison.

According to Mr. Menosky, "There may or may not be an announcement in the Hollywood tradepapers -- which tend to wait until a pilot script is completed, greenlit for production, with director and actors attached before they consider a television series worthy of mention. But given the focus of AnimeNation, I thought you might find the project of interest."
Article from http://www.animenation.com

In the past 5 years, there have been a lot of anime/manga properties begin bought up. For making into live-action films or TV series; I’m curious what everyone’s opinion is in regards of the various properties being snapped by Hollywood.

How loyal do you think they will be to the source material ?
Is there any anime/manga properties, that would or would not work as a live-action film ?
Any Actors/Acteresses, you would like to see in what roles ?

Ones currently known to being developed:

Domu-
(Guillermo del Toro linked but, still in film rights negotiation)

Gunsmith Cats-
(Producer Ben Myron and Writer/Director Kari Skogland were developing a movie based on Kenichi Sonoda’ manga. This was the last thing heard of this project in 1999.)

Neon Genesis Evangelion-
(ADV Films, Gainax and Weta Workshop Ltd.)

Lupin III-
(White Light Entertainment)

Ninja Scroll-
(Threshold Entertainment)

Battle Angel Alita-
(James Cameron owns the rights and will direct the film)

Dragonball Z-
(20th Century Fox)

Akira-
(Warner Bros.) (Stephen Norrington, no longer directing)

Blood: The Last Vampire-
(Possible Ronny Yu Project. )

Anything anime to live-action will fail. Most will bitch and moan while fan-boys will get giddy about it and then start asking foolish questions. Most importantly they will ask when the box set is coming out or if it's feasible to buy the DVD from Singapore.
Two movies were made from The Guyver and there's one made from Fist Of The North Star. How a second Guyver live action flick was made I don't think I'll ever want to know.
Just stick to anime and forget you ever read anything about a live-action adaptation.

x2 ... i prefer to watch the regular anime series and just leave it that way, the creators of these series didnt have in mind a live action movie. They created it and ended the series the way they did. I think that if the creators of these live action movies stick with the anime series and not do there own thing then i guess ill have to check it out. But im still iffy about these live action movies ... :|

Just like anything else... when you are taking an property that was originally a book/manga/comic/anime... whatever and adapt it to the big screen sometimes to get Batman Returns... other times you get Batman & Robin.

Depends on many factors, who's writing it, directing, producting, acting, doing the special effects and so and such. Each should be judged on a case by case basis.

Why? WHY??

No, serious. Why are they "remaking" it? It has been produced 2002, and they are already considering a crappy remake?

Jeez, I bet the remake will suck. I bet it will lack every originallity, atmosphere and suspension that made the original so great. And I BET it´ll be earlier shown on German TV than the original series.
And the folks here will say: Ah, yet another lame X-Files clone. Just as stupid as "Special Unit 2".

Sadly when something is remade it usualy is either the greatest thing EVER!...

...or becomes a waste of film that could have been used for something more valuable.

On that note I must crawl out of my hole and go get more W H Robin. Looked good! Im just lazy.
