They sucked, that's how. I've met people who ended up hating Evangelion just because of the last two episodes, and you can't tell me that episodes 9 and 10 weren't just filler with a few good spots.

I would prefer to say that episodes 10 and 11 were filler with a few good spots. Matarael was a rather wimpy Angel, and pretty much unnecessary to the story as a whole; and episode 10 was mainly just for the fanservice as far as I can tell. Also, Sandalphon and Matarael were both cut from the manga version, while Israfel wasn't; besides, the attack on Israfel further established Asuka's character and developed her relationship with Shinji (which, I would say, is important considering that episode 9 came right after her introduction), not to mention marking the first time two Evas had to participate in a coordinated attack to defeat an Angel.

Bah, I don't give a damn for the opinions of someone who would hate the series just because of those episodes. All 4 of those episodes where superb. 25 & 26 are completely essential, and just because 10 & 11 didn't change the course of the whole series doesn't mean they werent'important. Think about all the episodes in Cowboy Bebop that didn't have anything to do with the main plot. Frankly I think people throw around the world filler too much. But then again, I've always thought etertainment/art like anime (and music, too) is for those that enjoy it. Sometimes people critisize things just to critisize something, rather than letting themselves enjoy it for what it is.

Yeah, pretty much anything between 7 and 14 (inclusively) falls in that category, except 8, which only avoids being filler because it introduces 2 new characters. Oh, and the suitcase containing Adam was kind of important. But depth-wise it sucked. NEway...

:?: But weren't there angels in those episodes :?:
i thought the whole design of the angels was based on sum biblical source  (kabala most likely)
so if that's the case, wouldn't they want to go through all the angels to stay true to the source... but even if that's true, just filling the requirements for numbers of angels makes the rest of those episodes filler i guess, i'll have to get back to you on that subject after watching those eps again

and about eps 25 and 26.. if you don't like them... the series was wasted on you, hopefully you weren't watching the series for the cool mecha-action, or maybe you just need another viewing of them

if a few episodes in a series that's only 26 eps long will turn you off, i see you as strange and/or anal-retentive.
i could understand if it was sumtin like dbz (not ripping on dbz, just keep reading you foo) that has almost 300 eps and you were turned off in a few of the eps, and it was too long a series to just.. top off. but at least give the scene a chance to finish and see if it was going anywhere before you decide the eps sucked, it's all i ask
If you're reading this, you've gone too far...PREPARE FOR RETRIBUTION!!
Don't judge an AMV by it's anime.. u nooB ;D

There actually weren't 17 Angels in the original scripts, from what I've heard; they probably had to pad the number in order to have enough to fill 26 episodes. I know the manga has only 12 (either Adam or Lilith isn't counted as one, and Sandalphon, Matarael, Iruel, and Leliel simply never show up), and I believe it inherited that number from the original plans.

There are a few hundred angels and archangels in judeo-christian mythology. Going through ALL of them would take decades!

I just got a copy of the Bahir like 2 days ago, and I was flipping through it today when I came across a section that said there were 12 archangels who were closer to god and higher-ranking than all the others, and who corresponded to the 12 diagonal lines on the Tree of Sephiroth. Each of them has 6 wings, for a total of 72 wings - one for each language that existed on Earth at the time. Each wing also represented a different "power" that its owner posessed; however, this "power" was different for each of the 4 universes that exist (?!?), so that made 288 distinguishable powers - the 288 "sparks of Holiness that exist in creation". It's an awesome book. I plan on reading the whole thing.

Angels aren't the main point of Evangelion. Something doesn't have to follow the main enemy to be important. (Once again, see Bebop) Evangelion was also about characters, these so-called "filler" Evangelion episodes contain important character development. The point of a series is not to get by with as few episodes as possible.
