My collection, which includes domestic dubbed vhs, dvds, and unlicensed digisubs, is so farkin' big, I can't write it down here.

I can however give my top picks of the group.

Please Teacher - 11/10  Something "unconventional" for a change. Aliens chasing earth dudes? Yeah, cliche, BUT NO NOSEBLEEDS! TOP THAT!!! Good balance of romance/comedy/drama and uber-happy ending and I cried toward the tragedy beforehand. [sue me]

Please Twins - 9/10 :D sub par to Please Teacher, but the comedy/story/technique of the same director shone through

Kanon - 9/10 For the record the MOST ADORABLE CHARACTER DESIGN IN FUCKING EXISTANCE!!!! Nice drama and h-game based, what more can u ask? ]their eyes are so big that it would normally take about 0.8seconds for them to blink if they were physically real lol[

Nadesico - 8/10 Used to be a #1

Tenchi Everything - 8/10 Again, a former #1 of mine. ^_^
"Strength lies in action. Let the weak react to me..." - Kamahl, Pit Fighter from Magic: the Gathering
"That is a mistake many of my enemies make. They think before they act. I act before I think!" - Vortigern from Merlin ('98)
"I AM REBORN!" - Dark Schneider Bastard!! OAV

Side note: That Ryu from BOFII avatar is classic. Everyone should play that game. Ah, old school goodness.
Lupin the 3rd *
Love Hina *
evangelion *!#$?%@
BWAHAHAHA,

Ok, now its your turn to laugh at my opinions!

Ok here we go, I normally would write an essay on every one of these to help explain my tastes but I've done that at least 3 times already, I'll just give stars and brief (sometimes not-brief) notes. Notes are usually to clarify opinions of mine that might be unpopular or misunderstood.

***** Ranma 1/2 (98%)
***** Inuyasha (95%) (note#1)
***** Neon Genesis Evangelion (95%) (note#2)
***** Love Hina (92%) (former number 1)
***** Full Metal Panic (92%)
***** Outlaw Star (92%) (former number 1)
***** Escaflowne (92%) (note #3)
***** Golden Boy (92%) (former number 1)
***** Berserk (90%) (note#4)
***** Cowboy Bebop (89%) (note #5)

**** Trigun (87%) (note #6)
**** Kenshin (85%) (note #7)
**** GTO (85%) (old school goodness, even though its actually pretty new. :? )
**** Kanon (85%) (1st half = utter crap, 2nd half = Sixth Sense)
**** Read or Die OVA (85%) (brilliant but too short)
**** Hellsing (85%) (upper tier action series, eps 2, 4, 8, 9, 10, 11 are painfully slow (out of 13 eps))

*** Chobits (77%) (like Kanon, transforms just after midway point)
*** Read or Die TV (75%) (warm, fun shoujo anime. Then it gets f*cked up)
*** X - tv (72%) (Pretty slow. Good visually and gritty story. A huge improvement over the film)
*** Noir (70%) (first half = **. second half = ****. Good/fluid action in general.)

I'm going to skip the mountains of mediocre anime I've seen and skip most of the anime I didn't like, just to address some of the animes mentioned here.

Allright, preparing to dodge massive flames:

** Excel Saga (50%) (note #8 )
** FLCL (40%) (note #9)
** Ghost in the shell (35%) (note #10)
** Akira (33%) (note #11)

* Metropolis (mediocre anime ends with horrible ending)
* X/1999 (the movie) (see above)
* Sword For truth (just bad, really bad. Battlefield Earth bad. No wait, Gigli on the set of Battlefield Earth Bad.)
* Ninja Ressurrection (decent fights, storyline is very offensive to christians (which I am). Even if you are not a christian, this is a below average anime at best).

Notes and long comments:
Note #1: ([Inu Yasha] The stupidity and kiddyness of the show, some cheesy action, as well as filler and pacing problems (which are Rumiko Takahashi fault for being slow with the manga ^ ^), keep it from 98%-99%)

Note #2: ([Neon Genesis Evangelion] The more I watch it and the better I understand it, the higher I evaluate it. Its a well made show that is obviously brilliant even to those it confuses (they acknowledge its great aspects while still hating it, which is a natural and even common response). When its understood and its real life relevancy is uncovered, the show becomes somewhat of a monument in anime history. Its definitely one of the deepest animes I have ever seen)

Note #3: ([Escaflowne] An anime on the rise with each viewing (Like NGE I've seen it all the way through 3 times). Ending initially irked the hell out of me, but I found it more acceptable (even artistic) after the 2nd and especially 3rd viewings. I love how they snuck Sir Isaac Newton (co-creator of Calculus, father of Physics) into the anime. I loved every character in this anime, my 5 most liked villains of all time come from this anime. (Folken, Dylandau, Dornkurk, and the cat sisters.)

Note #4: ([Berserk] Surprisingly good, better than just an action anime. Ending was Horrid! No way to treat such a good show. Did an amazing job of establishing Griffith as the Villain initially and still making him very likeable. Judeau and Guts were good characters as well. Bring on the 2nd season! Please!)

Note #5: ([Cowboy Bebop] One of the best made animes ever. Animation is superb for 1998. Show was broken into two parts (12 eps followed by 14 eps). This helps explain why the show has such a simple story and resolves as quickly as it does, not to mention all the filler episodes)

Note #6: ([Trigun] The First 2 episodes were brilliant. Show slowly got darker/more depressing after that and nearly lost my interest. However, Ending was pitch perfect, and helped the series a lot.)

Note #7: ([Kenshin] Kenshin has two faces. The dumbed down, kiddy face (Circus episode, etc), and the "awesome swordfighting" mixed with very mature themes face (suicide, self esteem, social standing, honor). In this respect its much like Inu Yasha (Kikyo/Naraku/Sango storyline arcs are very well written, where as there are still stupid moments (Many lines uttered by Jaken, Kagome, and Shippo, etc, as well as the fact that every bit of information is repeated 8 billion times. ). I have only seen up to episode 30 of RK, but I would say so far the show has missed more than it scored, but I understand the best part of the show is upcoming, so this score only represents the first third of the show.)

Note #8: ([Excel Saga] Lots of random humor and pointless Jabbering. The dub is very annoying, and the sub is very hard to follow. Its an anime that pretty much requires the following 3 aspects to properly enjoy it:
A.) A sense of humor that appreciates randomness.
B.) A working knowledge of anime and anime cliches, including knowledge of a lot of old school animes.
C.) A sense of humor that can appreciate whats mentioned in B.

I missed completely on A and C, and I missed about half of B. That and Excel's annoying voice almost drove me to destroy the first DVD. I did find episode 4 absolutely hilarious, though, so It does have its rare moments.)

Note #9: ([FLCL] Lots of good things I can say about this anime. Brilliant animation, brilliant artwork, great soundtrack, EXTREMELY original, in other words, everything Gainax is known for at its highest level. The plot, as weird as it is, is actually tied together very well in the last episode, and makes a lot of sense. What I expected out of FLCL was comedy. The show made me laugh once, when they did the South Park spoof. I've seen AMV's made to this anime that made me laugh more. So the show wasnt funny for me, and worse, it seemed desperate in its attempts for laughs, which began to make me actually RESISTANT to laughing, even though I normally dont do that and try to enjoy every anime. It was kind of like Robin Williams on a bad day; He can't make you laugh, so he just goes for utter insanity and attention grabbing tactics, which arent funny, in fact I find them kind of sad. My friends (who love the show, apparently I'm alone on this one) point to lots of symbolism in the anime (the iron etc). But when asked to explain these elements of symbolism they always draw blanks. Look, if you cant explain symbolism than by definition it is expressionism (images that are powerful but have no real secondary meaning). Thats exactly what FLCL was, a weird, expressionist, and for many, fun romp down the rabbit hole. If presented more as a drama and not a comedy I would have probably liked this anime a little more.)

Note #10: ([Ghost in the Shell] Very well animated, and Manga (the U.S. distributor (lol they pronounced it Mang - ga) even boasted that it was the first anime to integrate CGI, which it wasnt, because Macross Plus had done that a few years before. Ironically, M+ was also distributed by Manga. Anyway, There is a good chase scene in the movie, which ends in a spectacular invisible/water covered Kick. This scene lasts about 15 minutes. It was the only interesting part of a very slow, very bogged down movie. My friends and I would debate whether or not GitS was the smartest movie we had ever seen, or just the most confusing movie ever thats pretending to be smart (I initially figured it was the movie that was smart and that I was just confused). After watching the movie several times, (and not enjoying it) I collected my notes and evaluated the anime. Basically, the background organizations and other background information are ultimately only hinted at, and only the most vague of information is given out. If you pay VERY close attention, you will get the general idea of the anime, but a majority of the important details will still be absent. Its a good movie to watch for its animation, but just remember that the movie is pretending to be something its not, its pretending to be smart. I will admit that the Manga (which came after I think) and newer TV series probably help explain GitS dozens of unanswered questions, but thats just an uneducated assumption.)

Note #11: ([Akira] The first anime I ever saw. It scared me away from anime for 2, maybe 3 years. It was too graphic for my taste (especially back then). The characters were under developed and I didnt care if they lived or died. The only character I actually cared for was Tetsuo, and we know what he becomes. I found the ending very frustrating. In fact the whole first half of the movie felt really slow and the second (more important) half really rushed. The animation is Phenomenal for 1985. I didnt care much for the ugly/simple character designs though. The story was extremely convoluded, on the level which only a Japanese comic book writer could achieve. The anime was not fun to watch, was often boring, and left me feeling dirty/depressed when it was over. Its not an anime I would show someone as their first anime (which unfortunately, its a common first anime for a lot of people).
