Know any good American comics that are like mangas in terms of storylines?
I can think of one:
The Crossgen comics----Stories revolving around Sigil-bearers bear slight resemblance to X by Clamp, Dragonball, Sakura Wars & so forth
American comics that are like anime, Plot wise

Crimson is a great comic that has a lot of anime overtones (to me, anyway)....you should try it out! vampires, dragons, chosen ones, the second greatest penciler of all time (Humberto Ramos, second only to the uber-talent Joe Madueira, follwed closely by Ben Dunn and Michael Turner), and one of the greatest color seperation teams of all time!
Warrior Nun Areala, created by Ben Dunn and distributed by his Antarctic Press label, is also a great anime-esque (did I just make up a word?) comic. There were like a million editions and variations put out, and you are sure to find one to your liking. They also made a manga out of it, which was incredibly good.
I think both of these titles have been discontinued, but back issues are fairly easy to find and relatively inexpensive. Good Luck!

and how could I have forgotten the most obvious? Ninja High School! Great comic, great stories, great characters, and I think some of the issues were either penciled or written by Ben Dunn (seeing a running theme here?).
Also, Battlechasers! Created by Joey Mad, possibly the most talented creator of his generation!!! Incredible anime/manga influence.

Actually, I don't think Usagi is really all that anime inspired. The stories in Usagi Yojimbo are inspired more by tales from Japanese folklore and the older Japanese art style.Sousaphonist wrote:Usagi Yojimbo by Stan Sakai...I think.
The characters expressions are more inspired by the anthropomorphic artwork that has been around in American comics and cartoons for some time.
