Are EVA's Really "Mecha"?

Post by evamonkey36 » Tue Mar 09, 2004 7:40 pm

I like Evangelion a lot, but being a Mech fanatic, I don't think the Eva's really quallify for mech status. This might be nit picking but what makes a "Mech"? Also whats your favorite Mech and would it win in a fight with an EVA?

NOT LIKELY!!!!!

I thought mecha = mechanical

So anything mechanical could count.....

So I'd have to rule out Eva on the basis that they aren't mechanical

(though mecha has kinda become the term for "more realistic type robots". I.e. Gundam being the most well known example)

Still a pilot isn't always neccessary......

Mecha is included in giant robot or machine used in battle.

the evas are not mehas, they are armor plated creatures controled through bio cybernetics and psychic brainwaves. Its a contriversial call, but i believe because the evas have a mind of their own, they are NOT mechs.

On the other question what would be the mech to defeat the evas, I think I know of one. Jehuty from zone of the enders and zone of the enders "the seconed runner"

Oh that would be such an excellent battle (dreams of the chaos)

To me a mech is a giant piloted humanoid used for battle. While the Evangelions are not mechanical, they are giant, piloted, humanoid, and used for battle, so to me they are mechs. If they had absolutely no mechanics in them, I couldn't consider them mecha, but for all intents and purposes the term fits.

What's my favorite mecha? Well non-beastly mecha atleast, Epyon takes the cake. Would it win? I don't know, I don't particularly want to imagine that fight.

an eva verses the epyon?

hmmm, the evas at field would be a factor, but can the epyons beam saber peirce it anyways...... that battle could go either way.

Mechas that can trash an EVA...
I'd say the Billbine's got the odds in its favor...small, maneuverable, and, since it's safe to assume this fight is
a) Taking place on Earth (as opposed to Byston Well)
and
b) The show granted pilots are in control (say, the respective EVA children to their units, and Shou Zama to the Billbine)

The Billbine would also be capable of generating an AT field (the Aura Barrier being, in all respects, the same thing)
Also the advantage of a much longer time limit (even with berserker options, I'd still place money on Billbine's maneuverability)

That's just my take on it though

That mech sounds cool, what series is it from?

For the versus fights lets make the battle feild a city on 21th century earth.
I'd say Tokyo or Tokyo3. The are versing the EVA's after all.

Cybertron's a cool mech.

Hey! What about all the Autobots from the original Transformers Vs EVA's 00, 01 and 02?

I don't give a shit what anybody says, the original Transformers kicks ass.

The Billbine? Comes from Aura Battler Dunbine from back in the 80s...

Here's the stats for it:

Unfortunately, by last check, the US release wasn't far enough along yet to feature it

That depends. Bumblebee would be bubblegum stuck to the bottom of Unit 01's foot, while Metroplex would toss around units 00-02 like rag dolls.

Agreed 200%. Except for Season 2.
