Import DVD dubs!

Post by KC Kimeleon » Mon Mar 15, 2004 1:39 am

Hey, I've been shopping around online and I keep seeing loads of different versions of the same imports animes. I only usually buy dubbed series, and I've been searching for certain dubbed import sets. My only problem is, I want to know if all import DVDs would have the same english dub voices as you would get on domestic DVDs.

Anyone know? I really really don't want to buy domestic DVDs anymore. They're so expensive. But I'm used to certain voice actors. Inuyasha for example (mmmmm... Sesshomaru's voice...).
Miroku: Kagome, are you worrying about me?
Kagome: I guess so.
Miroku: In that case, I have a favor to ask you: please bear my child.

Most likely they are the same voice actors. I bought X TV series and it was the same plus my friend bought the Hellsing one's which had the same english dub as well. Hope that helps  .

If by import you mean bootlegged, then yes, these bootleggers have gone to the point of ripping off the dub tracks from R1 releases. It's kind of sad, really.

There is no such thing as dubbed import DVDs using the same voice actors as the R1 releases. Those are copied bootlegs of R1 releases clear and simple. If you're used to certain voice actors, then support their careers by buying the domestic R1 releases.

That's not quite true. A number of older Pioneer R2 releases had the English dub on them as well. AnimeonDVD has a list of R2s with English dubs/subs here.

However, if your dubbed "import" DVDs aren't on that list, KC, or if they're region-free, they're bootlegs, like paizuri said.

Hate to break it to you, but domestic dvds are the cheap ones.
Import R2 dvds are much more expensive.

If you think that import dvds are cheaper, then as said before, those are illegal bootlegs.

The link that Hitori provided is one of the best resources to spot bootlegs.
I suggest that you read through it, since you don't seem to be able to tell the difference from licensed and bootleg.

This might have been said before, but if you like an anime enough to buy it, get the official. That way, the money goes back to the original creators.
Sometimes, if they get enough positive response, tehy may continue the show you like (example: what happened with Big O)
