First anime I saw? Well, my parents tell me I liked Voltron and Transormers, old skool, but I must have been younger than 5 because I STILL don't remember watching it. At all.
After that, yeah, I'm like the rest of the crowd, watched bits and pieces here and there of this and that, not knowing (or caring) that it from Japan. The only thing that stands out in this era of my life is Iria, but I never saw that all the way through at the time, and it was on TV, so it was probably hacked up anyway. There are some other things around this time period that I can't remember, but it's not important.
Got me hooked? I'll be the first on this thread to say: Project A-Ko. The original. Uncut. On Laserdisc. Yes, Laserdisc! Old skool hardcore. My dad's been an anime-lover since longer than I've been alive (19 at the end of April) and had Project A-Ko waiting on Laserdisc for the day he thought I was old enough to watch it. He pulled it out and sat me down somewhere in the 12-14 age range, I can't remember exactly when, and I laughed my ass off through the entire thing. Since then, much of my allowance, and other financial incomes, have gone toward anime, such that between me, my brother, my dad, and to a degree one of my two sisters, we've accumulated enough to fill almost two 3' x 5' racks with tapes and DVDs (the few oddly-shaped Laserdiscs we keep with the rest of his Laserdisc collection, due to their odd size).
So, yeah, 5-7 years ago is when I got into it. Before DVDs! I feel old. 8)

"Sailor Moon" began as some stickers that the "popular" girls in school were collecting, and I heard about a show on Cartoon Network.
I was hooked because of its cute displays, wonderful cast, and emphasize of the non-"dumbell" stereotype that girls can have power and slay monsters, while remaining noble at heart.
Then I read alot about Anime because I wanted to know WHY I liked it so much!! That lead to the manga of Kenshin, Ranma 1/2, and more.
Last spring, I was on break and at home in a lousy mood. Luckily, my brother had the remote on Cartoon Network. "Sailor Moon hasn't been on for a long time", I thought glumly. I glanced at the screen.
A very handsome young man with long red hair and bright green eyes had just pulled out a rose on the T.V. ("Tuxedo Mask wana be?" I thought)
"This guy is Kurama-he's a fox demon," my brother explained. "Who's the girl with the blue ponytail?" I asked. "Botan-Grim Reaper", he says as a matter of fact.
Uh-huh. Why do I have the feeling that this isn't your average cartoon? Interesting storyline, contact with the demons and the dead, and a great english dub. (And bishounen boys, lets not forget )
Needless to say, every day that summer at 5:30 my brother and I lept to the remote for another kick @ss episode of "Yu Yu Hakusho" and I was always holding my breath, wondering what kind of tactic they'd have to use to survive.
That brought on "Inuyasha" when my faithful bro taped the Adult Swim late at night. Though he likes "Inuyasha"-that's were his obsession ends. I'm the otuka in the family, the "odd donut", shall we say.
Any buggy find it hard being a loner? I guess thats what these websites are for!!

So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

To clarify, yeah if you want to get technical (and why not, I usually do) the first I can remember is transformers when I was a young kid too, but beyond that I can't think of anything before Iria, and that was certainly the first I knew was anime. As for the before DVDs, yeah I know the feeling, I got into it around the same time and I just turned 20 on the 11th, but I don't feel old yet (so plz don't make me ).FallenPhoenix wrote:First anime I saw? The first anime that I ever saw was Voltron, however I hated this show with a passion and because of it I hated all anime. Then a few years ago I stumbled into Cowboy Bebop and in the course of 2 episodes I was converted, like Paul on the road to Damascus. And now most of the shows that I watch are anime.
