I wouldn't go THAT far...there's parts where the anime has the edge, but the manga's not that bad (Hell, I prefer the manga ending of Sword Dancer to the version in the anime which, by comparison to the manga, winds up feeling pretty anti-climactic IMO)bote wrote:Hellsing manga=mucho sucko if compared to anime=mucho kewlness.

actually, i didn't think the manga sucked at allbote wrote:Kenshin sucked as a manga, but pawns as an anime.
whatever... i like the order of events that the manga happens in, i think they change the first few events... plus the manga doesn't have the filler episodes that the anime had...Incoherent Spoilers wrote: The one thing that i found weird was that in the very beginning of the manga, they had that old man betray Kaoru to try to get the dojo from her, but in the anime, they only had the younger brother that was pretending to be Hitokiri Batousai... actually i don't remember if the anime had the older brother (old man) or not... to tell you the truth... i have no idea where i'm going with this i guess i probably was gonna say something about whether or not i wanted the old man to be there... but that doesn't make for much of an argument for either manga or anime... for the record... i like having the old man there (if he wasn't) it makes the betrayal deeper...
plus, there's always the basic advantages of manga
-impossible to badly voice act
-no cheesey animation effects like staying in the air for 20 seconds dramatically
-episodes/chapters read as fast as you want them too
but of course anime has it's own advantages too, so advantages or manga or anime should not play a factor deciding which format is liked better... idealy, but they do
[i prefer manga... but anime is still necessary for making AMVs]

I haven't seen it dubbed, but I think it's pretty good subtitled (I've seen the whole series). I'm assuming you're a fan of SK--if/whenever it's out on DVD, I'd suggest renting it and giving the subs a shot. The order of some events is still different from the manga, of course (I've only read up through the "freeing" of Lee Bailong in the manga, so I can't say how much different), but--I dunno--I really liked the anime in spite of it.Sprectra wrote:I CANNOT stand the Shaman King anime. 4Kids completely ruined it. Plus Ueda Yuugi plays the voice of Horo Horo--he's one of my favorite seiyuus.

(full rant [a href="http://www.shonenanime.com/sa.php?sa=4kids.shtml"]here[/a])Shonen Anime wrote:4Kids don’t care about the Bilingual DVDs…
4kids ONLY releases their dubbed animes in English on the DVDs. And I think that’s sad. Funimation always has bilingual DVDs (Japanese And English Languages) on the DVDs. Funimation always made sure you got to experience the English and Japanese version of the anime. 4kids doesn’t do that, they only release their English dub on the DVDs, nothing else. If 4kids had bilingual DVDs, I’m sure they’d get more of a profit than what they do now. (We know 4kids gets a lot of money already!)
I still recommend giving the subs a shot. Which means, of course, that you'll need to either find it fansubbed or buy a Hong Kong bootleg. Normall I wouldn't advocate that for a licensed show, but a) it's Shaman King, which was bastardized by 4kids and deserves to be recognized as excellent, and b) if 4kids bastardized it that badly, then they deserve to be specifically not-supported.

I've only read the YYH manga up through the dark tournament, but I liked the anime better, and I doubt I'd change my mind if I did get the read the end of the manga.
They changed a few things (namely Yusuke and the early episodes), but they also added quite a bit of good things to the anime. The voice cast is excellent, the animation is much more detailed (and not so sketchy and early-dbz-like the way the manga goes). The actual *scenes* from the episodes and the story parallels the manga almost exactly in places - the anime just gives color and cleans the images up - plus animates it. I read the manga first (transcripts since it wasn't translated at the time), and it interested me in the series. But after watching the anime there's no way I'd go back. The anime and manga are very close in story line, so it's mostly the presentation that is the difference, and the presentation makes the anime much better than the manga.
After all, there's no excellent soundtrack for the manga, sung by the voice actors themselves. I love when an anime does that. It just gives even more depth to the characters. ^_^

i kno i definetly prefer the anime FLCL to the manga, and i prefer the manga marmalade boy to the anime, but there are some manga's i'd like to see as an anime - mainly Mineko Ohkami's Dragon Knights. but they would HAVE to have the same seiyuu as they do in the first few drama cds....that would be se kewl...*daydreamin*

But anyway, as far as an anime directly doing something better than the anime, I'd say the Hellsing anime did way better with the manga stories that where turned into the first 3 episodes.
You know, you're the first person I've heard say that!
The anime missed all the awesome details from the manga. But everyone has different tastes.
The CCS manga was considerably different from the anime...for example, Meiling was created exclusively for the anime, and she's a very popular character. I think the manga was short-running too, and the anime had a lot of episodes.
