Yes, the dub back then for DBZ was awesome. And you say that UPN had it were you are? Over here we had it on Fox, on Saturday mornings at like 5:30.

Umm... I severely doubt this. FUNimation has not done this with a single English dubbed presentation of DBZ (whether it be the TV series, movies, or TV specials) since their own production without Saban and Pioneer beginning with DBZ movie 4. I hardly doubt they're going to suddenly switch back to the Japanese music. From what I'm told, Mark Menza scored the dubbed version of DBZ movie 9.

And if you don't like the dub, for Christ's sake, don't watch it. You've got dual-language DVDs for a reason.

Wait a sec?

UPN dubs?

You mean the 'Look! I can see their parachutes, they're all right!" stuff?

If that's the case, I don't think perfect's the word for it...

i think an alternate solution to buying DBGT vids would be to flush your money down the toilet and then start sticking sharp objects in your ass. its much more entertaining.
That's called...."Empowerment"....Opra taught me that...

It's the price we pay for fairly accurate dubs with original music :?

oh no, UPN did not dub the anime itself, but merely broadcasted it on their channel every sunday for 1 hour.

actually, i'm pretty sure that it is the original japanese music and sound fx

i know what you're saying about the dual-language DVDs, and i agree, but this isn't the case, as far as i know, the movie isn't even released yet, the one i have i downloaded from a source, so it's ONLY in english, no subs, and i know it's the original music and sound fx because i've seen the movie before in japanese with subs (still have it... low quality but whatever, i'll delete it when i get the dvd) so i know what they sound like, and there's no mistaking the music/sound fx, especially when the voices were so poorly done, the music/sound fx i think would have suffered equally, but they didn't, so that's why i said that it was the only good thing about the english dub

..but to make sure we're not getting mixed up, i'm not saying (and i severely doubt) that the version i dled was by FUNimation, i didn't see any kind of advertisement so i don't know, that's why i made the topic, but someone brought up the point that it could be made by Blue Water Studios, so i think that's the version i dled, i know FUNimation or whoever does the US english dubs uses their own music and sound fx... most of the time, i think Movie 6 (the return of cooler) had the original music possibly

....krillin (klillin as they said his name in english) called Piccolo 'Big Green' and so did everyone else in the movie, including the announcer

and piccolo called his special beam cannon (maken-sumtin) a really really bad sounding name, so if FUNi had done it, i think they would have stuck with 'special beam cannon', and i doubt what piccolo/big green said in this bad dub was an accurate translation... but then again i don't know what piccolo's maken-sumtin translates to... i'd say it's 'Devil's Blast' but i think that's what his 'masenko' is

so i doubt the accuracy of this blue water studios... i need to learn japanese :?

I'm willing to bet it was a fandub. I mean, if you don't recognize the voices, it's not the FUNimation cast. I can't imagine that Blue Water studios (which is a subsidiary of the Ocean group) suddenly started to dub the DBZ movies.

I didn't say it was UPN dub, but rather given that point in the timeline, I'm suggesting that was the first dub of DBZ which, while sporting a decent cast, had some of the corniest edits imaginable (such as the above mentioned "Look! I can see their parachutes" line...sure Tien...those reporters drill on being able to parachute out of an exploding helicopter in under 5 seconds...keep dreaming.

...and don't get me started on that 'Other dimension' shtick
