Read this it gets interesting, because I plan on starting a little of controversy with my answer. You need to read the whole post to get the right impression though.
Personality Type:
I tend to lean toward any character I relate too.
Characters that are artistic. Sensitive inside and bad-a** outside. Tragic lone wolf heros. Anti-heros.
In case you don’t know an anti hero is a character that is bad but does good things.
Yusuke from Yu Yu Hakusho is an excellent example of an anti-hero. He curses, enjoys beating people up, and generally pisses people off, but saves the day even if most never know it.

These are probably the closest matches I can think of to myself.
Most are of them are messed up. They tend to be sad, angry, and/or emotionally overwhelmed.
I would say Amon from Witch Hunter Robin, but I hold no religious reservations like Amon. Though Robin is really sweet. Not too mention I am a complete pyromaniac. Maybe I should do AMV to WHR to Def Lepperd’s Pyromania one day. Well for a day when I more money for DVDs. If someone wants to do the video go for it. I don’t mind repeats as great music is always great music and everyone makes AMVs differently.
Inuyasha or the later Sesshomaru would be cool. Hell I left humanity behind long ago anyway.
Character I like, but am unlike:
If I had to pick someone unlike myself I would say Gene from Outlaw Star.
For one Gene has Melfina and she is probably one of the nicest female leads in anime. Plus she doesn’t have to try to be hot in order to be attractive.
He has a spaceship and unlike those listed above he has better luck with impressing the ladies. I do share his determination to achieve greatness and excel or die trying.
Though Tenchi from Tenchi Muyo, etc. has a nice comical and fun situation. Plus I am big fan of Ryoko. Or maybe some other anime like Love Hina.
Start the Controversy:
I’m gonna put this idea on the table, because I know somebody probably thought it and was to worried about ridicule. But as a Metal fan sticks and stones will break your bones not mine.
I know some girl is gonna give me angry reply for this one.
Well given guys innate fascination with lesbians I am surprised nobody has said Ranma from Ranma1/2.
For those that don’t know Ranma is guy cursed to change into a girl with cold water and back into himself with hot water. Plus he sort of lives in Tenchi Muyo situation. Not to mention Akane is elected out three sisters to be his fiancee, becuase she ‘doesn’t like boys’ and Ranma is ‘half girl.’ (Though neither Ranma nor Akane are all to happy about the idea initially.)
The anime is funny with plenty of martial arts action and Ranma gets the best of both worlds with his curse.
Though it raises odd questions like if Akane really loves him does she accept both sides of Ranma.
And on an occasional transformation does Ranma get cramps, etc.
Heavy Metal hair confuses people anyway. (You think a mustache is a give way, but the standard of beauty where I live tends to have a low bar line with little personality to compensate. Though I suppose it is a thin bad-a** mustache and not something like a pringle can picture.
Yeah I think I could live in Ranma’s situation. I could put up with getting beat up by girls all the time for it.
(Seems to be a lot of anime with a guy the gets beat up by girls getting jealous of each other and taking it out on the guy. However Ranma often has it coming. The guy always seems to be to stuck in the middle and confused most of the time too. However Ranma, unlike Tenchi, eventually says to heck with it and enjoys the attention to a degree.)
If not Ranma then Inuyasha. Half-demon powers and Kagome’s sweetness have quite an appeal. Though I am a bit more like the later Sesshoumaru.
