TJWAR: Kacho-Oji: Hard Rock Save The Space (Black Heaven)
Ack! I totally spaced doing the reviews for yesterday, so I apologize for my tardiness! Anyways, here's the first review for this week: Kacho-Oji Hard Rock Save the Space, or as it was released as over here: Legend of Black Heaven. Anyways, here's the review, and I'll try to have the second one up as soon as I can decide what I actually want to review. So in the mean time, enjoy!
Kacho-Oji: Hard Rock Save the Space! (a.k.a. Legend of Black Heaven) spoilers = light
Tanaka Oji is just your average salaryman, who is in a lukewarm marriage and has a young son whom he can’t understand or relate to. However, once, Tanaka Oji was Gabriel Tanaka, lead guitarist for the rock band Black Heaven , but that was a long time ago, and he barely remembers anymore about when he and his band were back in the limelight . . .
Deep in space a war is being raged for the fate of the universe. And the side that wishes for good and wants to save everyone is being beaten back. Fortunately for them, they’ve found a supreme ultimate weapon. Unfortunately, they don’t know how to precisely activate it, until one day, they find a unique sound that can power the weapon . . . Oji’s music.
This show is one of my favorite series of all time, and it’s kinda sad that it’s not as well known as it should be, as it’s very excellent. Now, the show is very original, as there really aren’t that many shows that really revolve around music, and even besides that, no other shows that I know of are about old rock bands that have since broken up, and to save the universe need to get back together. Yes, the premise is awesome.
But even with a wonderful idea and promise of originality, doesn’t mean that when applied that the idea will turn out well. Thankfully, it did in this case, and very much so. What really makes the show great is the characters, and the large amount of situational comedy that the show has in it. For instance, Oji is given the chance to play his Flying V guitar again, which makes him feel alive, but to go do so, he has to hide it from his wife, who ends up believing that he’s having an affair. In short, it rocks. Also, the animation for the show and characters is nice and good, but definitely not great.
Now, as one of the focuses for the show is music, you’d expect it to be good. And it is. Unfortunately, I do have a problem with it. And this problem is, there’s just not enough variety. There’s only really a few songs that are used during the context of the show. They’re still good though, I would’ve just liked some more. But hey, it’s really a very small complaint, especially since the show is only thirteen episodes.
So now, at the end, I am going to wholeheartedly recommend this awesome show, and I’m going to give it a solid 4.5 outta 5 stars. It’s a great show that spans a total of four DVDs.

Not sure. I think that when it was released awhile back that it managed to slip under the radar for alot of people. I know I didn't know about it until I saw it at the store, and then it was mainly a spontaneous decision to pick it up. I'm very glad that I did though . And I hope that you enjoy the series as much as I did!Otohiko wrote: Why haven't I heard of it before?

Hey, I'll look for it next time I get money to spend on this sort of thing, that's for certain.
For some reason, I was convinced there's nothing with a similar theme out there, and I'm sure glad I was wrong. As some may know I have an... odd obsession with aging guitarists

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…
