Vampire Effect is Hong Kong. The Japanese names that you saw were the character names, not the actors.Gaav's friend wrote:no i watched it on the action chanel the names of the actors were in japanese and so was the title it had it subed underneath that the name was vampire effect
Speaking of Hong Kong, I loved watching "The Bride with White Hair". The sequel wasn't bad but paled in comparison to the original.

I haven't seen Bride With White Hair, but it has piqued my curiousity before. Perhaps I'll eventually get around to seeing it.
Some of my favorite Hong Kong movies that I happen to recommend to everyone because they'll change your life, are:
A Better Tomorrow 1-3 (2 is the best one, and even has the fabled rice scene!!) Awesome Gun-Play from the master: John Woo
The Invincible Super Chan (According to the box, it's banned in 34 countries!): The most ridiculously bad martial arts flick that I've ever seen.
Ricky-Oh: The Story of Ricky. Most violent film that I've seen + it's ridiculously awesome
Snake vs. Crane: Arts of Shaolin (my favorite Jakie Chan movie besides the original Druken Master)
Hard Boiled: The last movie that John Woo made in Hong Kong

How come you didn't mention "The Killer"? If you are gonna recommend Hard-Boiled, you gotta also say something about The Killer. Hard-boiled, is wonderful and is one of my top picks, but The Killer was a more balanced film in story and action, which I consider to be better than HB overall. Hell, Cowboy Bebop's church shootout was obviously influenced by the Killer. As for the A Better Tomorrow Series, I've only seen the first two, never really bothered with the third. Number two also seemed to influenced Bebop, Spike's raid on the Red Dragon Synicate in the finale was very similar to the climax of ABT II

The Godzilla Movies
The Gamera Movies
Fugitive Alien and its sequel
What's Up, Tiger Lily?
Tampopo and Juzo Itami's other films
The Daimajin series looks interesting, but I've never seen 'em.
Ditto Takashi Miike's oeuvres. Many of which are uber-disturbing.

Gah!! You're right! I totally spaced out The Killer! How could I forget it with a slogan like "Two men, ten-thousand bullets." Yes, it is a totally sweet film . . . except for a few odd things. Like the fact that they go to the 'casualty ward' of 'Scared Heart' hospital, and in the dub they dub over a cat with some guy going, "Meow." But yeah, it's a sweet film.

Actually there's both a Killer by John Woo and Ichi The Killer by Takeshi Miike.
Fyi, that "meow" was Jeffery calling the cat.
I have the complete daimajin box set. In every movie the majin only shows up in a deus ex machina form.
Other reccomendations:Fudoh, Lady Snowblood, Battle Royale 1&2, any Kurosawa, Versus, Azumi, Hero
