Evangelion showed some odd principles of the Christian faith mixed with a future atmosphere, Dragon Ball Z showed a universe always under a harsh strugle over a desperate yearn for survival that some great hero had to bring forth, which usually was by fighting this dark and extremely powerful nemesis(es) that resided in the bright and dark recesses of that world. Cowboy bebop shows the hardships of a bounty hunter from his literally begining and end and the noble deeds he did during his time. Pokemon was a genre that started in the 1970s, but failed, and was later revived in the 1990s into a genre that has brought laughs to the most anti-pokemon groups and has united a large community of gaming with the games it brought forth in its wake. Trigun showed the true deep emotional hero we can relate with past mythological heros, like Hercules, who was driven by emotion to the grave, but in this instance, the hero doesn't die; which is something we call all like. Robotech engenered a world in anime, where even the greatest of main-characters could die, which drove emotion into the viewers.
The list of anime and their aspects is long...but to me, I think the Dragon Ball genre and Dragon Ball Z genre made a large mark in its emotional episodes with its well made fight sequences, animation, storyline, and longlevity.

My absolute favorite has to be Inuyasha. I love that show.

My favs:
Outlaw Star- Everyone says that this is the bastard child of Trigun and Cowboy Bebop. I disagree. This show is pretty original in a bunch of ways from the two mentioned above. With such characters as Asia Clan Clan and the McDougal bros. this show rocked. The plot was pretty original for it's time and featured some really nice art and animation.
Gungrave- Perhaps my newest fav. Gungrave the game was awesome, and the anime lives up to all the expectations that I had for it. When this one comes out July 6th, I'm definately getting it (with the collectors box of course) The animation was smooth as anything, and the plot was exquisite. This anime also seems to now be getting the title of most melodramatic anime made yet.
Final Fantasy Unlimited- Not a lot of people liked this show. But I feel that it had quite a bit of charm to it. Referances to the Final Fantasy series are strewn about throughout the whole show, and characters like Kaze, Kumo, and Lisa were just cool as anything with Kaze probly being the most badass character in the Final Fantasy world as opposed to Vincent and Auron. Besides that, Gonzo did a great job with combining the new school CG with old school type anime. Cause even thought this show had rehashed footage, the footage looked incredible, and I never got tired of it. The music was fantastic like usual from Mr. Uematsu. And the plot just screamed Final Fantasy game. I hope that ADV will bring over the After series of this really stylish show.
Hellsing- Another one of those "not-so-popular" animes out there. I thought that even though it didn't follow the manga entirely, that the plot to the show was still good. Although the characters being off model in every episode did bother me some, I didn't let it hinder the show for me. Cause with the kick ass characters, music, english dub, and plot, the only thing this show suffered from was the shortness of it. I so hope that there will be a second season to Hellsing.
Tenchi Muyo- Pretty much anything Tenchi has kicked ass, even though Tenchi in Tokyo wasn't as good as I'd hoped. But still the characters are pricelss and timeless. I'll never get tired of seeing Aeka and Ryoko fighting over Tenchi, or seeing Ryoko just get pissed and go on an ass kicking spree. The animation in all the movies and universes has always shown to be top notch, and the dub is one of the best out there in anime to this day.
Cowboy Bebop- What can I say? This show is pretty much on everyones list for fav anime. With the style and originality of this show, who couldn't love it?
Full Metal Alchemist- Another Square anime, FMA kicks ass. With 50 episodes, each animating at almost movie quality, and next to no filler in each instalment, this show will hands down become a classic. The plot is one of the most original to date by taking a whole new spin on some old anime cliches and character types. And with all the themes that this show presents, it'll definately leave you with a lot of thinking. FMA is a must watch for anyone.
Full Metal Panic- Perhaps just cause I'm a fan of the manga, I've ended up becoming a fan of the anime. FMP featured great animation from our friends at Gonzo, and focused more so on the serious side of the manga, but still had a lot of the priceless comedy that it has been known for. It is a bit cliched though, with the whole angsty giant robot piolet kid falling for the spunky girl who has powers she didn't know she had thing, but I still like it.
Variable Geo- The game was okay, but I really liked the anime. It had great animation and characters. The only thing that it suffered from was that it was too short. Everything kind of got squeezed together in the span of three episodes, but it didn't hinder it by that much. The show is one of my all time game to anime show favs.
Street Fighter II- The other fav of mine that was game to anime. With all the well done fights and game references, along with the rockin' american soundtrack, this one beacame an instant fav of mine with the first view.
Neon Genesis Evangelion- It's Eva, need I say more? Although I did have my gripes with it, I still think it's one of the better animes out there today.
Mouse- A newer anime in the market, this show is all about fanservice and theivery. Its really nice for a good sexual laugh fest.
Phantom Quest- Another not known anime, PQ has some of the best fights in anime today. And it didn't have too bad of a plot or characters either. With anemic vampires, and the girl with the original lipstick weapon, this show is a pretty good ride.
Kiddy Grade- Featuring Funimation's best dub ever in my opinion, KG has the potential be more than just your regular Dirty Pair clone. With great animation, and a fairly decent plot, this one can go far.
Ninja Scroll- Both the movie and the anime feature what we all truly love in anime... sex and violence...
Vandred- Both stages of this show are awesome all together. The characters rock, the soundtrack is kickin' and the animation is top of the line. Thanks again Gonzo for another awesome anime.
Please Teacher- I went into this one expecting a hentai, and instead got a fairly decent comedic love story. Mizuo is perhaps the sexiest woman in anime today.
Saikano- The best love story in anime today, the tragic tale of Shuji and Chisa will pull at the heart strings, and make you want to hold that special someone alittle more tighter. Gonzo does it again, by making the hands down best love strewn anime out there.
Akira- One of the best plots, and best animation in any anime.
