The Most Disturbing Scenes In Anime ***SPOILERS***

Post by Wheee_It's_Me! » Thu Jul 15, 2004 4:46 am

I decided to start this here since this forum is more up front about the fact that there's gonna be spoilers. Now I'm sure we're all familiar with the classic scenes, Shinji masturbating to a semi-naked Asuka and telling us all about how he's "so fucked up". So what's new in the world of anime? What sorts of emotion crunching, slap you up long side your head with a dose of horrific imagery are they coming up with these days?

Well, seeing as how I started this lil thread, I'll go first! I've got to say, the most disturbing scenes I've seen recently came from episode 24 of Chrno Crusade. In the one scene we get to see Rosette Christopher bawling her eyes out to Chrno about how she doesn't want to die. Now, ordinarily you'd expect like, I dunno, SAD music to be playing in the background. One of the things that makes this particular scene so emotionally stabbing is how they screw with the setting. They've got a happy, uplifting, almost romantic type setting with pretty, melodic music chiming away all whilst poor Rosette desperately wishes to live for just a little while longer.

Now, if Chrno Crusade had been an American tv show or movie...Rosette and Chrno would have miraculously survived and everything would have been happy...instead they both die...just like that. Nevermind that the whole point of the series was an unflagering effort to find and save her little brother so they could all live happily ever after. But hell, in the end, they're no better off than when they started...except that Rosette used up nearly all her life energy in the doomed endeavor and her brother is basically a permanent mental case.

And the scene that comes afterwards, when their friends and poor little orphan Azamaria find the two dead in each others arms...WOW...I mean...that just like shocked the hell outta me the first time I saw it. The look on Azamaria's face is just incredible to say the least bit.

Oh, hey, I just remembered! We can post links to clips now!
Here ya go, kids:

6.44mb file size
50 second length

And remember, these are not happy scenes. o_O

So, who can tell us all about some more disturbing scenes in anime that they've seen lately (preferably newer stuff, I think NGE has been done to death in this category). And hey, post images or vid clips if ya got em!

The entire of the last two episodes of Narutaru, particularly episode 12, features some of the most shockingly violent and psychologically impacting scenes I've seen in anime. Dark, brooding and vicious.

[MOD: This thread seems to be more suited to General Anime than Anime Episode Discussion to me as its a general topic rather than an episode-specific one. Moved accordingly.]

Fist Of The North Star is pretty down and out violent... uhm... But I havnt ever seen any anime thats full-on given me the creeps before... Lain made my eyebrows raise in episode 2 where the dead girl walks up to and THROUGH lain, pulling a freaky dead face all the while... and Boogiepop Phantom gave me skin pricklies, but thats about it...

I'm just hard to creep out i guess.

I'll be blunt. Practically, every scene of Petite Cossette creeped me out. Of course the one scene that creeped me out the most is
when the little girl starts a ritual to "get rid" of the evil that's present inthe guy's body.

Ok, I know that this is kinda old but the begining of Blue Gender (the first three or four episodes) was kinda creppy in a way that :
everyone from the rescue team, except Marlene and Yuuji, dies and those capsules containing those sleepers are lost.
You have to admit that if you were to get put to sleep hoping that when you wake up, the doctors could treat your illness and than when you really wake up you find yourself almost alone in world infested with huge bugs, that's something really bothering, isn't it?

Hrm, most of Texhnolyse is one disturbing, creepy scene after another. Be hugely spoilerish to talk about the later ones...or the early ones. Still haven't finished the series (watched up to 16 fansubbed, it got liscened, so now I'm stuck on DVD2 waiting for 3)
Life's short.

personally i found all of the last three episodes of Berserk disturbing, kinda scary almost. I was seriously so freaked out by them that I couldn't stand to watch them alone at night. And when Griffith gets Casca and Guts is watching ... why'd he have to do something like that for .... why ..
Come on let's die until we live.

In episode 1 of Haibane-Renmei when you actually see the girl's wings sprouting, they way it was presented made my stomach churn. The pain she goes through, those huge bruises on her back, and the shot of the wings finally piercing through her back with all that blood, and such. Such a very powerful scene.
