Anime is more for men or women?

Anime is addresse to whoever wants to watch it , either boy or girl, teenager, adult...whoever... I don't feel it has a certain target, and that depends on what kind of anime gendre you're into. Women might watch anime that you as a male might find inappropiate for them to watch. It's too complex this question to generalize into two lines. EvaXephon gave a good reply (kinda long too, hadn't had the nerve to read it all, sorry...)

I think the gender fandom of anime is pretty balanced. However, females are ALOT more vocal and excited over anime than guys are.

Just go to a con and compare the women vs. men who jump up and down all giddy about anime.

I think certain animes are directed at males, and certain animes are directed at females, and some are just aimed at everybody.

That's probably a safe statement. I can't say that I don't get excited when I meet someone else who is into anime (it's another person to discuss the joys of anime with).

I think Anime is targeted more towards boys. Though there are a rather big amout of girl anime too, It just seems like more of it is targeted to boys. As for the Fandom, I would a rather equal amout of boys and girls are into anime. I agree with Castor Troy's statment, I've been to many cons, and we girls always seem to be the more extroverted and excited people there.

I won't go into detail since it will pretty much be repeating what others have written, but I believe that the target audience of anime (overall) is for anyone who enjoys it.

Well It's all variant on the type of anime you buy of course but I think a majority of anime is geared toward late teen/early 20's males.

One speculation--whereas there is obviously a wide range of styles, perhaps until recently anime was lumped into the same category as video games--largely considered a guy thing by the American companies bringing both anime and video games over. *shrug* Maybe until recently only the action-based stuff was licensed because those in charge couldn't imagine more than a small percentage of girls liking it, thus creating the illusion that it's primarily targeted to males.
