That usually doesn't happen where I go to get anime, but the reason I feel that they do that is proably as a waring. I mean in a sence anime is a more mature cartoon, and yes some with nudity (my favorite ) but they put them there so the parents will keep them away from that stuff, and the store probably thinks that's better becasue if a kid picked it up he'd run to his mommy and say, "Look mommy, look, there is a guy being cut in half with a giant sword." Then the evil soccer mom grows angery and sues the story and everyone lived happily ever after. Great story huh? But that's probalb ywhy they do it, and if you really want to know just ask them!Declan_Vee wrote:I've noticed a disturbing coincidence whenever I go to a video rental store that stocks anime titles. They are always either alongside or combined with the adult titles... anyone else notice this.
Is it only down here, or are they next to each other up there aswell.

They are probobly there, because most common non anime folk think the violence and pervertedness in anime is adult content. I've seen Love Hina dvd's with 18 and up ratings on them for crying out loud! So what if theirs blood, violence, and a little pervertedness its anime and thats some of the things that make anime great!

I once went to a video store and asked if they had any animation. They said yes. Then I asked if they had any japanese animation. They said yes. I asked where it was. They said I couldn't see it. I asked why.
They said it was because I had to be over 18 to watch anime. I guess they either thought that all anime was hentai, or the only anime they had was...*cough cough*

Holy crap, this is like the ultimate necropost! 2002...to 2004! WOW! I'm impressed. ^_^
Interestingly enough, my local Blockbusters no longer have an anime section...they just mixed em all in the other movies depending on their type. So like Pokemon is in the children section, Hellsing is in the horror section, NGE is like the fantasy/scifi section, etc, etc.

Holy necropost, Batman! <---- did I steal that from someone? Besides Batman I mean.
Lessee... the place I go to has the anime VHS all together near the action section and the film noir section... used to be by sci-fi (next to the adult room)... don't know where the hentai is anymore, but it WAS by the rest of the anime but on separate shelves (it's probably in the adult room now). Anyway, the anime DVDs are all together in the former kids' room (used to be by the American animation section and the action section)... except for te hentai ones, which I don't know where they are. A few of the DVDs and VHS are in the new release section (when appropriate), and some are mixed in with the kids' section... but that's mostly pokemon and digimon and stuff.

Yeah, I know this is an old thread,
Funny, the store I rent from, Disc Is It, the proprietor was telling me he was running out of room in the sotre for all the DVDs, over 10,000. He's contemplating opening another store. Guess how it would be divided? The primary store will be all the 'normal' stuff. He's thinking of opening another store just for the porn, and guess what? The anime. Oh yes, and tabletop gaming. Porn, anime, Magic:The Gathering. Is there a better combination?

unfortunatly there aren't many places around me to rent anime but I've noticed that some places that sell anime place it right next to the adult section
Fye does this for example
However best buy places in it's own little world near sci-fi
