How well is anime known where you live.

Post by Evangelion Unit 01 » Tue Jul 20, 2004 10:55 pm

Okay, you don't have to tell me where you live so don't freak out.

Where I live I can sadly only think of about 30 to maybe 50 people who are into anime, that in cluds my anime club. And that is out of a city that has about 10,000 or more people in it.

What's even worse when I was talking to someone about anime they are all "Who's anime?" (It was gramma so I guess she has an excuse still its sad :( ).

pretty much everyone knows what anime is (in my area). They just fail to relize it's many joys.

Sounds like a lot to me.

When I first came to the town I formerly lived in, there was literally noone I was aware of who was into it. But by the time I moved out 6 years later, there was a growing interest, and there was certainly a good number of people I knew who enjoyed it. But it couldn't have been more than those 30 to 50 people - in a city of 40,000! No anime club, either.

Not too aware of what's going on here in Ottawa now, since I just moved in recently, but I'd assume it has enough, given it's a city of over a million people and all.

Not much in Waterbury, CT, but in RIT, I think we have the largest anime club in the country (take that MIT  ). Heck, because of the RIT Anime Club, Media Play created a very nice selection of mangas, anime DVDs, and anime music CDs. So basically, not much here, but a lot at the school I go to. Most of the time, I keep it to myself.

Hmm, is this another "pity the anime fans" thread?

Tally:
my parents 2
me 1
at least 12 people I know from school (no anime club and I don't know everyone)
at least 2 people in the other art classes who like to draw anime-style
1 teacher
2 women I met at the train station coming back from a convention who live in the same city
supposedly, the former sponsor of the video game club
1 guy who works at the video store

that's 22 (out of a city of sixty-nine to seventy thousand)... but there are a lot of people who go to conventions in the area, and obviously I don't know all the thousands of people. Most people have heard of anime or Japanese animation and would recognize the names of the most popular few which have recently shown on TV. lessee... I know of three conventions and three anime-related events which happen annually in my area. At least one of the conventions is quite large, and that tally didn't count the local Cherry Blossom Festival's cosplay competition.

I wonder if you can guess what metropolitan area I live in?

forgot to mention that I think all of the local colleges (even community colleges) have some kind of anime club; one of them runs one of the events I mentioned.

Well, between a large local club (and a smaller one) and an all-anime store, I'd say a lot of people know about it...

I would just like to point out that this is a rather pointless question because in less you're omnicient you can't know how many people in your area are into anime

that being said I know of at least 50 people in my area but many anime watchers aren't very open about it I think most feel they're alone

A lot of adolescents here in town practically live in the anime section of Suncoast.
Probably too busy to be here right now.

Actually, a lot of dumb jocks and stupid preppy bitches live around where I do.

Then again, a lot of freaky goths and drunk pale chicks live here too.

It's not that I like giving people stereotypes, but I've talked to many of them, and asked if they knew what it was, and very very few did. The ones who knew said it was either "gay" or "stupid" or something.

..People who reside around where I live suck. :o

If my evil was just a little bit more abundant, I would kill them all. But damn. :x
