Anime hasn't been around long enough for that. But if it had been, maybe.
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?

*shrug* Evercrack--I mean, Everquest--hasn't been around all that long, and yet some people have failed out of college because of it... I think people are more likely to ruin their lives through MMORPGs than through anime, though I'm sure anime-related purchases have caused more than a few incidents of major debt.
Personally, it's caused some financial problems for me. On the social scale, it's built friendships on one hand and--well, no relationships have been ruined, but some friendships have been changed. I'm a late-comer to anime (it's only been about two years, if that) and some of my old friends have given me weird looks. My brother made me promise that I'd still have a social life. Apparently he's worried about me now that I'm a geek.

Lives Ruined = 0
Sleep Lost Due to Anime = Lots
Money spent on Anime = $Lots$
I must admit there are times when I have to remind myself of the importance of my job and sleep over anime! My collection has grown in the past two years, it was just mostly Tenchi Muyo (mainly because I couldnt get enough of Ryoko) but now it spans Akira - "X"
Also I have made new friends by going to conventions and have learned more about the computer throught AMV's.
I really can't imagine my life without the influence of anime.

You can't really blame anime for ruining your life. If it's destructive to your life (which I have a hard time believing, but there may be special cases) then find a new hobby!
Anime would just be a factor. The real problem is the person.
Of course, I'm referring to someone who has really messed things up for themselves (the equivilant of a druggie).
But I seriously doubt that anime could have you out on the streets living in a cardboard box and dumpster diving for food.

Anime hasn't really "ruined my life" to say, but it did distract me from a lot of school work. I either doodled or daydreamed during lectures, and therefore, I didn't really apply myself as much as I should have. Not to mention the fact that I've spent a lot of money on anime as well.
However, I plan to change my work habits when I attend college next month - hopefully.
