RK-Trigun resemblance???

Post by cilu » Sun Aug 01, 2004 8:02 pm

I was watching trigun lately and in the same time rewatching RK and i was thinking: it's only me or Vash resemble Kenshin??? They both have a nonviolent style but end up hurting ppl. They're both willing to help the weak and look kindda goofy.
What do you think?

Oh and did the Trigun designer (drawer) also drew Lupin (cause there are some similarities in the drawing style). Just curious.

Yasuhiro Nightow drew Trigun. Lupin III was done by Monkey Punch.

There once was a page on a now-defunct website outlining the same thing--the author also drew parallels (for some reason) between Sanosuke and Wolfwood. *shrug* I can't think of many other examples off the top of my head, but I think that very powerful yet peaceful characters are common in anime.

There are many characters like that in anime, but Kenshin and Vash are just so similar, its rather strange.

If you think about it, even their motives for not killing are rather similar. Kenshin doesn't kill because of his vow to Tomoe, where as Vash doesn't kill because of his promise to Rem. Both try to live by this vow. They are also hunted down by others because of their past. Both can be rather goofy when nothing is real happening (Vash in a more perverted sort of way IMO), but become serious when needed. They have that best friend (who is also a victim of fan made Yoai pairings) they become attached to (Sanosuke/Wolfwood), and a girl who likes them but won't admit to it (Kaoru/Meryl).

So in the end, I think it more of a simalairity in the storyline rather than the characters themselves. Maybe the creator of Trigun was inspired by Rurouni Kenshin.

The pacifist protagonist is not an unfamiliar character in anime. You have Vash, Kenshin, and Shinji Ikari (To an extent). There are also lesser known animes such as Now and Then, Here and There in which the main character is also nonviolent except for self-defense.

It's nothing new.

I honestly don't find good simil;aritie between sanosuke and wolfwood. The first one is a villan turned good and the other one is a good guy turned villan turned good. Wow i'm confused now...... yeah there are similarities between them alright, silly me.
