Do think anime is looked down upon?

This has happened to me oh so many times. I walk into a dvd store ask if they have anime and they say, "Oh yeah that japanese stuff." Or, "Oh yeah that asian cartoon crap." It almost seems like anyone I talk to will say that. I told one of my co-workers I was into anime and she said then same. I am only wondering if anyone else has experienced this or is just me. It seems like those who don't really care about anime still view is as that kiddy crap, and always talk down about it.

I constantly hear that anime is jap cartoons for kids or that its all hentai tentacle porn.

My response is usually "Judging by your response you have never watched anime and no nothing about it. Your just going off what other peoplehave told you."

When i speak about anime the first reaktion is "what that porn stuff".
I is realy often mixed with hentai.

The general population of America and probably alot of other countries look down on anime. It's too bad, we get the shaft 'cause of cultural differences and ignorance. Oh well, it's life. Just gotta suck it up and move on.

As for me, I don't care what other people think, they are usually too stupid to understand if I try to explain it to them, so I don't.

It's definately looked down upon by people who don't know what they are talking about. If they took the time thought they would probably see that there is something for everyone. Maybe one day people will quit being so arrogant about what they THINK they know and start experiencing more and learning more. I can only hope.

I suppose people just assume anime is either porn, or just kids cartoons - and it's probably not that hard to see why. Most of the people I know will tease me about my apparent 'Yu-Gi-Oh' obession

(which is actually more along the lines of Fushigi Yuugi or Yu Yu Hakusho, but I don't bother arguing...)

Even so, it honestly doesn't bother me much. Anime here in P.G. is definetly not that popular, so at least here, I have a slight sense of individuality ^^;

i like all your answers, infact i fell the same as most of u, i dont really care what say about, if they havent watched then why put it down, to me i think its really stupid. and plus my sister hates anime even when i watch it in japanese shes says "oh great not spanish" and then i say "its not fucking spanish damnit its japanese". gets me pissed
