I'm always amazed by the amount of backlash the show gets, I think it's mainly a popularity thing. I mean a lot of stuff gets bashed just because it's mainstream and there are a lot of elitists who dislike it just because of that. But there are also people who actually dislike the show regardless of the popularity thing. I can't help but love the show because nearly 10 years ago the original Dragonball got me into anime. My love for DB and DBZ is mainly because I grew up with it.
I do agree the anime is fairly ridiculous, it's very slow paced. I enjoy the manga for both series a lot more than the anime

Yes, there is an immense backlash with anything mainstream.
I believe people are just mad or ticked of because of all the hype, kudos and praise DBZ gets, since they think other anime are worthier.
Nevertheless people should just leave DBZ alone and see it for what it is:
An anime staple that got many people around the globe into anime and nothing nor anyone can take that away.
DBZ has got to be good at least, because it sucks you in and even though it's slow paced you sit from start to finish of every episode.
Heck at first I hated it and didn't see "the point" of it; it took time for me to get in the groove and learn the various characters names.
*thinks* Don't think so, at least I don't have them.do dragons really have balls?

I've yet to see any other anime with fighting on the same level that Dragon Ball Z did it. I think the whole third season was basically a struggle against the single strongest being in the universe. There may very well be other anime out there with fighting on equal level with Dragon Ball Z, but it regardless it deserves props for being a solid action series. Plus, even better, it had a completely sensical plot up until the defeat of Freezer (and would-be-death of Son Goku on Namek), and a fair enough, though often kinky, plot from that point on. Plus fair enough characters.

i really liked watching the movies....they were short, had a good plot for most of them & was filled with decent action...they were the 1st things that got me into anime...but i cant really say the same bout the tv series....ive only seen bout 1/4 of Z (random episodes from start to finish) & all of GT...i thought it was really slow & a bit repetitive (a new enemy arrives...goku goes off to train...comes back & defeats them...& dies himself...they go get dragonballs resurrect him....& then a new enermy arrives.....goku trains again etc... etc) & i dont know what happend with GT....you sure that the dragonball company werent paid just to have their name lisenced on the series? or did they run out of budget or somthing....

DragonBall GT was made out of sheer popularity for the DragonBall series. The DragonBall series really ended at the end of DragonBall Z. I guess the company wanted to feed of poularity and decided to pick up after the manga author decided to end it.
My reason for diskliking DragonBall Z is the length of the series. Nearly 300 episodes to tell a story that can be told in 5 minutes? Now if that isn't lacking in a story....

I am actually not sure why a large amount of people don't like DBZ because no one actually states why they don't like the show. They just say stuff like ; "It sucks" , or; "SOandSO is a better anime" without giving a reason.
I think DBZ is a great anime. It has a perfect mix of characters and personalities, all of which are unique from one another, you see them evolve and grow up. The drama in the show is awesome. Scenes like Gohan VS. Cell and Vegeta's Sacrafice show great heroic qualities and are just cool to watch, especially with the great soundtrack the show has. Plus, it has the coolest martial arts fighting out of any anime. The special moves are interesting too, like Kamehameha and Final Flash.
This is just a guess, but I think a large majority of people don't like this show because it has considerably less mature content than other animes like blood, swearing, and sex, so they think it's in the same class as pokemon and digimon, etc.
