The future of anime?

Post by Evangelion Unit 01 » Mon Aug 23, 2004 2:12 am

Now I have heard that some of our most beloved titles (well mine anyway) are being turned into real life movies (Evangelion). Not only that but a lot of new titles that are coming out are sort of ripping off the old ones (Evangelion vs. Rahxephon, Tenchi Muyo vs. Tenchi GXP ). Plus anime is becoming a lot more computer then art (Last Exile). These are all truths we must face as anime evolves.

So, the basic question is that with all this happening do you think the future of anime is bright or dark? And what can you do about it? (for me probably nothing but get pissed off  .)

I would say it depends on WHO does the live action movies (producers & directors). b/c there are some really good directors who actually may be able to do a good Eva live action. But those same directors would do a sucky job doing an anime like Samurai Deeper Kyo (just an ex.). It's like who is good with what. Director "A" is good with sci-fi movies while director "B" is good with the older "retro kungfu" style of movie. As far as the anime age, I think it became a lot more mainstream. this I think is bad because ppl who knew about anime long ago and know the real meaning of 'otaku' have to deal with newbies who swear they know everything about any anime out. I mean, i'm no newbie but I'm not gonna act like I know every little thing about any specific anime or manga no matter how much I read or watch it. Anime as far as mainstream will be a passing fad, but true anime fans will be there through the whole ordeal.

some comp animation is good though (depending on what anime your watching). I would think more mech anime would have the comp animation. and what i've seen wasn't bad. it could be a lot worse and now with all of the new animation programs out its like anyone can do it, but the ppl that did the fan favorites as far as anime are already great @ it so now the comp graphics make the job easier (i would think) and what would be a good anime before comp graphics is a better anime after.

I'm going to be optimistic and say that the future is looking bright. Anime/Japanimation has come along way, it keeps evolving.
Who can forget Astro Boy? Speed Racer going then to Ranma 1/2 to Sailor Moon to whatever current program you want to choose.
The differences are obvious but they're all anime.

anime will always be around for those who want to see it.

much like manga is still going strong even though there is anime.

theres always going to be producers that wont want to make movies on certain themes(look at Phone Booth) this will probably happen with anime movies as well, i mean i liked Sailor Moon as much as the next person but what producer will make it into a movie?

lol there also making DBZ live movie, and u know the elf from lord of the rings, his name i think starts with L anyway he is krillin *laughs my ass off* anyway hes gunna be bald buhaha

I think it will pretty much stay the same, eventually it will become completely cg but i dont know for sure cause both look good i personally like actual thing, its not as real as cg, cg makes it to real i think the point of anime is to be un realisitic and to fantisize about things also just to waste time mindlessly because i have a tiny life and only a few friends and only one girlfriend  which thats the way its supposed to be 0o ...

but styles will definitely change, like if u see the animes from 80's original gundams, the christian animes that were first made and u look at anime now u can see huge differences... and as for copying goes thats sorta lame, but i do hope if someone copys an anime they make it good...:) also i hope in the future they can give better endings to anime i mean i have not seen ONE anime with a good ending, except evangelion has an okay ending still though endings are either twisted as hell, or there stupid like love hina (im glad they made love hina again otherwise i woulda died).
