Aw hell. I got here too late. Otohiko, Moonlight Soldier, and all of the other people who write long meaningful posts have already been here. There is nothing left to be said.
Maybe, being a true anime fan means something different to each fan, since there are as many truths as there are...Damn it, I really can not say anything without quoting Evangelion!
This post isn't any good, mission is a failure, abort, abort!

I consider a so-called "true" fan to be someone who is serious into anime, someone who has seen more than what's on TV and someone who cares about it, not someone who just watches very rarely when there's nothing else to do.
That being said, I would more likely deem them "serious fans" since in actuality a fan is anyone who enjoys anime.

Well I'd have to know you personally to make a sure judgement, but if you aren't serious into anime and don't care about it then you aren't a serious fan. But someone who watches it often is likely to care about it (not that I'm saying you do, per se).pyro_256 wrote:i'm not seriously into anime, but i have seen a lot more than what's on TV. and i don't really care about it, but i watch quite often when there's nothing else to do. where would you place me?HeartbreakerByZep wrote:I consider a so-called "true" fan to be someone who is serious into anime, someone who has seen more than what's on TV and someone who cares about it, not someone who just watches very rarely when there's nothing else to do.
I completely understand what people are saying about no fans being better than others or anything. It's an undeniable fact that anyone who likes anime is an anime fan. People can't accurately say "Oh, you're not a fan." and things like that. However, there are degrees of fandom, and some fans are more involved than others. Would anyone go to a Neil Young concert, see the guy on the lawn who bought a $10 ticket just because he likes Harvest and some songs he heard on the radio, and then go over to the front row, see the "Rustie" who sold his computer to get a front row center seat, who owns every album Neil Young ever did or was a part of, owns 100 bootlegs from various time periods, has seen Neil Young 32 times and owns concert shirts from all of those times, and listens to Neil Young everyday, and tell the guy in front row that he's on a completely equal level of fandom as the guy on the lawn getting piss drunk and yelling for Heart of Gold over and over again?
Not to say that the amount of money you spend determines how much of a fan you are, obviously not. However the amount of passion you have for it and the amount of thought you've put into it do have an affect on it.
However, no one is an unworthy fan.

I can't remember the last time I watched anime. No wait, it was when my girlfriend came over bout a month and a half ago. I wanted to buy Excel Saga 6. yesterday but I chose to buy music over it.
Maybe my intrest in anime is gone :¬ \

I spend more hours watching vids than I do pure anime. I'm still a fan, I'm just not a fan of watching it - I'm fan of using it. ^.^)v(ajin Koji wrote:I can't remember the last time I watched anime. I've had that AMV angle on it, a bit. Still, I like watching it, but I do it casually as opposed to obsessively - or even regularly, for that matter. I think I've seen maybe a half-dozen brief (12-26ep) series in the last year, and I usually just watched the whole thing, then stopped watching anime pretty much completely, for a couple of months.Arigatomyna wrote: I spend more hours watching vids than I do pure anime. That's not to say I've lost my interest. I'm just managing my own time in other, more creative ways
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…
