exactly it goes along with that howard stern thing. theres a simple thing you can do if you are offended by what you are seeing or hearing....
TURN THE BLOODY THING OFF
im just saying that most anime is not aimed toward kids in america, you can see this by how much the people who edit shows for TV rip the crap out of them.
thats why i buy anime rather than watching it on TV, well i also buy it because most of the ones i want to see arent on TV but that would be for another topic

As far as anime and kids splitting, well, in my POV that's a bunch of crock. I agree with Otohiko in the 16- thing, although those are actually teenagers.
However the fact remains that most anime aren't aimed at adults.
Some may have adult themes, occurrences and the like but the demographic is still mid-teens at the most.
Adults = over 19 years of age.
That you can be “old” or at least older and still enjoy, that’s normal. Since when does age matter to enjoy something like anime?
I’ve an uncle that still loves The Flintstones since he watched them as a kid, so what?
And there are anime specifically aimed at kids, even if they are Japanese.
The Japanese are open-minded but that doesn’t mean they forget the age group that can bring them the most revenues.
Ever heard: "Mommy! Mommy! I want this, buy it. PLEEASE." *puppy dog pout*
Logic is the way…

But there's still a lot of good anime aimed at younger audiences. I don't see a problem. I think the 'outsider' approach that we have here in the west is screwing up our views, that's for sure. We're just to used to anime that's 'more mature' than kids cartoons, but there's nothing like that in Japan. There's anime for kids, there's anime for adults. Since Japan is a bit more lenient on violence and has no problem with sexually suggestive stuff, we also sometimes think that some anime is aimed at an older audience than it actually is.
Fine, avoid kids' anime. But WTF would you like the poor Japanese kids to watch if you say they shouldn't have anything specifically for them?
Oh wait, let the american imports handle that, eh

That'd be great, it would be anime in reverse. Japanese kids could complain about how Japanese studios don't make enough animated programing for them. And they can argue over which Mickey Mouse is better, sub or dub. They would of course be upset when the distributors edit in things like cigarettes and sexual situations to appeal to an older audience. But, thats what forums are for.Otohiko wrote:Oh wait, let the american imports handle that, eh

Yeah. Damn that Miyazaki and his incredibly popular and well done movies (Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service)
Catering anime to those non-teens...blasphemy!

I think you need some education to go along with it, though.Hieis_shadow wrote:I'm a kid and i think the edited version is stupid. I like the uncut with all the swearing and blood

I find it a double-edged sword, really. On the one hand, it's not good to expose kids to things of the sort because they might not understand it properly - do we want the young to get the impression violence/vulgarity is cool/good? On the other hand, violent or offensive doesn't neccesarily mean bad/desensitizing in the wrong way. I'm really not a fan of educating children about how to deal with rights and wrongs of perception and behaviour by simply hiding the truth from them.
I guess it's a case by case basis, then. I don't think the networks have it right though; but a lot of the time they have no choice thanks to those vapid "parents' groups". And I don't think those 'groups' have it right, either
But anyway, what's that got to do with kid-specific anime? I'd definitely encourage young kids to go with Myazaki instead of Ghost in the Shell or something. The former is meaningful, good stuff for them specifically; while the latter isn't even their level - they won't usually get it besides the violence. Geez, just admit that there's good stuff for all age groups, and leave it at that
