Hmm yes "entertainment" was a misfit word to describe it.
Captivating and moving? Definitely.

Wow Bum, and I thought you had no emotions except hate for RahXephon :)

I didn't cry after watching it, but I did just kinda sit there and think for awhile.

my hate for rahxephon is not emotion. its more of an uncontrolable machine type feeling that runs through my blood.

There's been a billion threads on GotF. A simple search would have yielded exactly the same opinions.

Oh, and the deluxe box set has a critique by Roger Ebert that's quite cool.

i cried during the entire second half and then some. i saw the english dub and it seemed pretty good but i haven't seen the original yet. i think this movie should be one of those things they make you watch in school.

LOl and Gotf still is a sucky whiny little movie about what happens when you prefer to still rather than work.

i found this film quite sad, i cried when the little girl (i forgot her name haven't seen it in a while) died from radiation poisoning, the film had good animation but was otherwise quite a depressing film

I thought Grave of the Fireflies tried a little too hard to affect the viewers' emotions. I didn't really feel for the characters much at all. Barefoot Gen for example is a much better sad WWII movie.

As is proven by AMV Hell 2 :)
