like or dislike fansub

So what do you guys think of fan subs and I don't mean the bad ones but the ones that are done well.

In my opinion, I think that fansubs are great, if done well. Their free (until the anime is licensed) and they can give you a sampling of what the series is about, if you like to buy the series when it's licensed, like myself.

Ya I have to agree with you, cause I love anime and now theirs a couple of series that I am going to get cause of fansubs.
In total I have to say I would not be in to anime as big as I am now without fansubs.

I think they're nice.

I also think they're illegal.

But that doesn't mean they're not nice, and most anime I watched as of late is indeed fansubs.

x2, actually.

I know it might not be a good practice, but even if I end up buying the anime, I will hang on to the fansubs - for reference, so to say. Despite the usual 'official translation = better' rhethoric, my own semi-limited knowledge of Japanese often suggest that fansubs do catch some of the nuisances of the language better than many official translation. It's not a rule, but sometime it is the case.

I watch fansubs and when it becomes available on DVD I go and order it from my local Anime shop.

I like being able to at least preview a series to see whetehr or not I like it.

If I had spent $80 some dollars on Gilgamesh I would have been livid. But having had opportunity to watch Mahoromatic Maiden I eagerly rushed out and bought it.
