a character frame is just a guideline that you sketch before you even start drawing the person. you draw sticks for limbs and balls for joints. frames will vary but they all serve the same purpose: to allow the artist to judge proportion and poses before they get too far into the picture. the best way to fix mistakes is never to have them in the first place. this is a precautionary measure. if you draw around a properly constructed frame, you really shouldnt have any proportion problems and you can spot details of the pose you otherwise wouldnt want.
