Ghost in the Shell

Post by IamSano » Tue Nov 30, 2004 5:19 pm

First off, I haven't posted in months so I don't know if someone has asked this question already. For those of you who are following Adult Swim and watching Ghost in the Shell...Can you please explain to me what is going on? I haven't seen any of the Ghost in the Shell movies and the episode they just played on Saturday (episode four I believe) confused the hell out of me. I'd appreicate it if anyone could take some of their time and explain it to me.

From what I can gather, you are watching the adventures of Section 9, a special police/military unit used to hand some of the more special and delicate problems that occur in Japan. There is no real need to see the original movie and this series seems to capture the spirit of Manga. The episodes are for the most part stand alone adventures and cases for the team but there is an underlying thread tying them together. The underlying thread so far as I can tell is the pursuit of an international cyber terrorist called "the laughing man". Some episodes are action orientated, some are dramatic exposition, others are comedic orientated. So far it is a very well done and excellent series.

I hope that helps without giving anything away.

I watched the first movie. My brother said they were the same characters, but I wouldn't know, I never bothered to remember the names. I'm planning on watching it agian. So far the movie doesn't really seem to have much to do the anime.

It doesn't. It's the same characters, but it's really AU. The only possible way the show could connect to the first movie is if the show were a prequel of sorts, and there's no indication that it really is. Just an alternate universe.

I also have a problem following the show too. I watched episode...*trying to remember* I think it was episode five. I haven't watched the movies or read the manga, so I'm not so familiar with the characters, so if anyone could help me out...
And so ends another episode of wasting time with Faye...

well not that I could explain it any better that bobbarker31 because I'm not all that familiar with the story line but most of the episodes have had to do with some haywire machinery (episode 2) and viruses in computers so really all I can assume is that it's about the team getting to the bottom of illegal operations and arresting the baddies

I've seen the movie, read only 1 of the manga, and saw half of SAC, but it makes more sense if you've seen the 1st one to understand Stand Alone Complex
