I would probably say Neon Genesis Evangelion, but when I read an eariler post when someone said it is not a mech anime I would have to agree. So i'll say mine would have to be Gundam Wing. Macross is a close second.

For old-school factor, a toss up betwixt Tetsuwan Atom (Astroboy) and Tetsujin 28 (Gigantor).

For pure awesomeness, Giant Robo.

And also, Shin Getter Robo. Because it can cut Jupiter in half. Can Evas cut Jupiter in half? No.
