Thank you and agreed.pen-pen2002 wrote:I agree with Kajino.
Personally though I think more kids are screwed up by parents being to strict than too loose. Especially since a lot of kids will dislike really inapropriate material and stay away on their own.
It's Rei.

Don't take it too hard...
There's a big difference between you and some of the older posters here.
You must obey your parents...
We must obey the law and the IRS. <-Residing in the US of course.
You are a kid; some of us adults here have them (kids.)
There's no comparison.
Although your parents seem to be in the 'too strict' region.
Sometimes talking to one's parents is the best option.

It's interesting that you'd mention Kenshin. As far as my parents were concerned, anime was just "cartoons" until the day my mother caught me showing my five year old sister an episode of the Kenshin TV series. The word "suicide" was mentioned, and my mother started grumbling about dirty cartoons spoiling children's minds. As of late, she's jumped on the "TV and video games make kids kill people!" bandwagon. But she doesn't bother telling me what I can and can't watch because she knows that I'll watch it anyways. And besides...she's not about to let the assload of money I spent on DVD's go to waste.LilyoftheShadows wrote:I'm 15 and i sneak a lot of my anime actually n.n course, i feel bad about it sometimes afterward... but im actually mre protective of what my borthers watch than my parents. Censorship the Fine line of Rebellion
People are going to do what they are going to do. If TV or Music comes in to play it is only an excuse.
People do not stay ignorant forever. Limitations are meant to fade and allow 'reality' to come at a slow pace.
Overly strict 'protection' will only result in a greater shock later in life.
Of course it is all dependent upon individuals, communications, and subjective opinion.
To be honest I dont find Ikki Tousen to be so bad. Fighting (duels), curse words, and under garments. You see plenty more at high schools and even middle schools for that matter.
We live in a time of STDs, AIDs, VDs, and gang violence. We can no longer afford to leave children ignorant until it is to late.
You should tell your daughter to make note of fighting styles for later defense in high school. ha sort of ha.
Hell I remember when they made action figures to R movies like Aliens.
I also remember an article about kids laughing at the exorcist when a generation ago it frightened their parents.
One final thing to compare:
Every time some militia of mid western mothers against all things fun and happy decide to wage a crusade of censorship sales spike.
The same thing happened back when the Parental Advisory Sticker was put on CDs. Heavy Metal scare the hell out of neighbors music sales went up. People that sell only edited music go under. Even Wal-mart caved in to it.

My parents have done an A+ job for me (from my point of view). They were restrictive at first, but as I have grown older and matured more, it has become more of "Do what you know is right" rather than "you can't (or can) do that". And I'm OK with that. However, being in college has been an entirely different experience for me than home. Even at Brigham Young University, I have had plenty experiences akin to RootHubController's joke on his Mormon friend (how ironic). From personal experience I have learned that most adult rated content isnt worth my time, and if it is, there is almost always another way to see it or a different way to pick up the same moral/plot/theme. I've seen my share of anime that was obviously desensitizing or just wasn't all that uplifting, but besides from being good personal experince, its also good because I can then defer my opinions to my younger brothers as to what anime is/isn't worth watching.
One must take note of the perspective they taking are in anything. For example, I want to be a doctor, and I really like blood (or just human anatomy in general), so when I watched Hellsing, everything just kinda blew past me. It wasn't until I was making a Hellsing AMV that I realized, as I was browsing through the footage, how much blood and gore there was. Aso, having been raised in "ghettosville", CA, I heard it so much swearing in school that I completely tune it out now (Although I have never sweared). Is this good or bad? It has to be the parent's call. The only advice I can really give is that if you love your kid(s), do what you feel is right, and that only you can know how to best raise your son or daughter.
Good luck all you parents out there. I'm rooting for ya!
