Full Metal Alchemist: US release???

Post by SpLiF_3d » Mon Jan 31, 2005 3:04 pm

ok...so the 1st dvd of full metal alchemist is about to come out on dvd feb. 8th right? i have watched a few amv's with this anime and it seems that it could be quite bloody and mature. My question is if (like a lot of other animes) the original series will changed/cut/omit to suit a more commercial audience?
As much anime as i buy, I hate seeing the CartoonNetwork logo on dvd cases. Where can i get the originals? Are they only available on fansub?

(random 2nd question)
Where do you get source footage for anime not released yet? I.E. Naruto, My Hime, Full Metal Alchemist....etc???

I'll be blunt. There were NO cuts nor edits that has been made on ADULT SWIM. They only shortened the ending in order to fit the time constrant and played the second opening theme song for the first couple episodes (I think it was due to some licensing issues). In my opinion, Adult Swim is doing a very good job with the handling of Fullmetal Alchemist.

Easy, FUNimation did the dubbing and everything and then decided they'd wait to release the DVDs until after it'd been on American TV for a while.

How do most American shows get on TV before they come out on DVD (if they do at all)?

Seriously. FMA has become one of my fav animes. I think most dubs are horrible there are only a few good dubs and I mean a few in my oppion.
The reason people fear daeth is becuase they are stupid to accept as a part of life and there is no denying the inevitable.

If what you're looking for is unreleased anime then you'll have to resort to fansubs. Bittorent is good for all of that.

First off, Cartoon Network doesn't do any dubbings, they merely air the shows. The dubbings are done by other companies, such as FUNimation, ADV, Bandai, etc. So you'll never see Cartoon Network's logo on a DVD case anyway.

Secondly, even if the show has been edited on Cartoon Network (though highly unlikely if it's on Adult Swim), you can still buy the DVD's in it's original, uncut form most of the time. The shows are only edited because of a law that says if general audiences (little kids) are watching, you'd better take out the blood, swearing, and sexual references. But since the DVD's have a suggested age rating, the dubbing companies do not have to cut out anything on DVD.

There are only 3 options I can think of. 1) Download fansubs, 2)Buy the original Japanese DVD's off the web, or 3) Buy bootlegs (though I HIGHLY DO NOT recommend that unless you want bad quality footage, uncomprehensible subtitling, and crappy packaging.)

Yeah, I understand, I saw that with some YYH DVD's as well. The shows are as seen on CN, meaning that the DVD's have cut scenes and removed swearing, but the dubbing is still done by other companies.

Wow, that sucks. But don't worry, you won't miss out on too much. I've pretty much just gave up on CN, I buy DVD's of anime that I want to watch, and quite a few of them haven't been aired on US cable yet. I learn about new series from my anime club at school and this forum. :D
