Plot-
Neon Genesis Evangelion is about a boy named Shinji Ikari, who is 14 years old. One day he gets taken to see his dad who works for the government organiztion NERV. He finds that he has been the third chosen child to pilot the Evangelions to fight the Angels (multiformal aliens). It's pretty cool, cause the mecha have living organisms under the mechanical armor and bleed when shot and have organs and stuff. It's one of my favorite shows and I highly recommend it.
Characters-
Shinji Ikari: Star of the show. Low self esteem.
Rei Ayanami: Think Heero Yuy in a girl's body.
Asuka Langley Sohryu: Vain, self centered, but FINE AS HELL!
The Word: Angst, Gorey Mecha Battles, Bishoujo Galore!
Be non-conformist! (Everyone's doing it!)
I guess Max Payne isn't much of a yaoi fan...

Well, if you haven't seen Eva, that I think its time for you to see it! It is a very good Anime and I do agree with (Bardiel13) about what they said about it. It can get bloody too, so hope you like blood ˆˆ'.

The ending, or rather the endingS will make you either love it or hate it.

Both feature extreme amount of blatant headfuck and abstract imagery. The last two episodes of the TV series are loathed by some for ass-simple animation, and the movie (which is intended as an alternative view of what happened in the last two eps) is very intense, violent, and outright scary.

Granted, I love it all the same 8-)
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Strangely I personally loved the ending(s), but hated most of the rest of the show.

I didn't hate the T.V. endings because of the animation quality, I disliked them because instead of going from point A to point B, I was placed on a detour that led me to point 7.
Probably too busy to be here right now.

btw, the series is a three-parter that tends to also chronicle creator Hideki Anno's personal struggles filtering into the series. (It's a true story that Anno was descending into madness. The poor guy had to be put in psychothearpy at one point because he went crazy.)

- The first part (Eps. 1-7) is the introduction to the main cast.
- The second part, the "Action Arc" (Eps. 8-14) is Asuka's introduction and mostly focused on Angel-bashing.
- The last part (Eps. 15-24 & multiple endings) is more psychlogical and internal. The Angels take a back seat to each of the children's personal issues (and boy, do they have issues).

However, because fans in Japan complained about how the TV series originally ended, Anno and crew just decided to give them what they thought the fans wanted. This new ending became End of Evangelion, which is a reimagining of Episode 25 (now called "Air") and Episode 26 (now called "My Heart For You").

There is a great article written back in 2002 on Anime News Network called "Understanding Evangelion" that explains most (if not everything) about the series:

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/feature.php?id=14

(The article does contain spoilers, but as the second line of the article says, "we don't feel that the spoilers [are] big enough to ruin a viewer's enjoyment of Evangelion, but be warned that they are there.")
