Half the people got into from first watching DBZ and Sailor Moon in America when they were young. The other half either live in England and got anime since a long time ago or are true old anime fans and somehow started their anime adventures before DBZ came on in America. That's basically the majority "I was one of the pathetic DBZ Sailor Moon anime fans in the past."

Wait, technically I guess it was Speed Racer.
First anime I saw in a theater was Spirited Away.

Basically, since France loves Japanese animation, a lot of it was translated into french. A ton of it got sent over seas and I, living in Québec (french speaking Canada) as a young child, saw lots and lots of it. It just stuck with me throughout the years.
But seriously, what's up with all the hate? It seems like some people are very bitter today.
